Using https://hatch.pypa.io/ for a new project that I'm setting up after using https://python-poetry.org for a _long_ time.

I like that it's all based on PEPs. But... I’m bummed that means there is no lock file. Trade offs. 😅

The built-in scripts (like https://github.com/nat-n/poethepoet) is rad.

I'm unsure how useful `envs` will be.

I'll be curious how well it works in more complicated setups. Poetry has been mostly great for me except for some annoying edge cases.

I looked a bit into #hatch in the last weeks and finally took the decision to use it for managing my personal #python projects - all the active private ones and the one open source project I offer.

Hatch really impressed me and took my heart. As far as a tool can do it. 😀

I have a problem with #hatch in one of my #python projects. If I run my test suite inside a test environment, I get the follow message. If I run it in the default environment, everything runs fine. Why do I have to add the environment to my .gitignore?

In another problem I don’t get this message. This is kind of confusing.

Switched django-tailwind-cli to hatch. And I really like the results. Especially the different environments for development, testing, linting and docs is really nice.

#Python folks: Any tips for learning it, coming from #Rust ?

I'm kind of reliant on the strictness of Rust, especially when it comes to using the wrong types and everything. Some way to force me to follow a similar style would be appreciated.

I'm also very reliant on Cargo, it's so *clean* and integrates everything nicely. I'm not sure if there's an equivalent for Python that matches Cargo.

I’ve been loving using #hatch when doing anything in python.

The way environments work can be a bit confusing at first. I was tempted to activate them and then `pip install` things myself but turns out you don’t need to worry about it at all. You basically just add your dependencies to the pyproject.toml file and hatch takes care of the rest.

I'm a bit sad that the PyPA folks who work on #Hatch are so responsive to bug reports, because I had thought to maybe try fix the bug I tripped over in the #PyConUS sprints, but instead they've already released a fix.

So the bloody #broody decided to get off her eggs about three days before they were due to #hatch. I’ve popped them into the incubator with the dozen #Maran eggs that are due on 4th May but I’m not holding out much hope as they were stone cold when I found them 😢

There's honestly not a lot about #python that has impressed me over the last decade. It was simply a gateway language for me. However, #hatch and #pyenv have definitely done so. How trivial it is to run tests across multiple versions of python including prerelease, actual dependency tree solving, domain specific dependencies. It's added a little much needed joy to python project management.
