#ClimateDiary I feel stupid - these fires, which have been burning for over a week now in #Brazil’s #Pantanal, the largest #wetlands on the planet, had somehow completely passed me by. The #Heatwave, #Drought and #Wildfires in Brazil are really alarming, yet seem hardly in (my) news. Is lack of coverage going to be another troubling dimension of advancing #ClimateEmergency? Or maybe always been the case. Or maybe just me missing things. Pondering all this.

"Always and Forever" is an R&B song written by #RodTemperton and produced by #BarryBlue. It was first recorded by the British-based multinational #funk-#disco band #Heatwave in 1976. Released as a single on December 3, 1977, the song is included on Heatwave's debut album #TooHotToHandle (1976) and has been #covered by numerous artists, becoming something of a #standard.

People are going to lose their lives.

After 12 consecutive years of MySQL presence at FOSDEM, the MySQL Devroom has been rejected of the 2024 edition.
The MySQL & Friends Devroom has been always very popular, almost full for each sessions and maybe the room with the most received submissions.
This is also the reason why since 2017, MySQL was proposing a fringe event known as preFOSDEM Day(s).

How bad must it get before we act?
Researchers recently discovered that the most intense heat wave ever recorded happened last March.
And it was in the coldest region on Earth.
Eastern Antarctica saw a spike of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit above average that month, according to a study published in the peer-reviewed journal Geophysical Research Letters. The region was at 5 degrees Fahrenheit at the peak of the heat wave when it should've been near -65.2 degrees Fahrenheit, the study says.
Just a reminder on #DisasterPreparedness -- as things cool down, NOW is the time to do some #heatwave preparation (obviously, if you are able, i.e. resources and have a residence where you can apply infrastructure upgrades). The #spring #heatwave in #Australia is set to continue this week, with record temperatures expected for inland areas of South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. In Sydney, temperatures have already reached 34.2C, which is more than 12C higher than the September average.

The #BureauOfMeteorology said it expected several early spring records were likely to be broken over the next few days, calling the heat "very uncommon for September".
