Archaeological crew examining a large series of recently uncovered mummies.

More context information:
"In 2019, archaeologists discovered 30 sealed wooden coffins, their mummies still intact, in the ancient necropolis of El-Assasif near Luxor, Egypt. Dating back around 3,000 years, the haul of coffins has been called a "cachette of the priests" because some of the mummies are those of priests.

The decorations on the coffins are well preserved and none of the tombs had been robbed; grave looting in Egypt has been a common occurrence in both ancient and modern times, so to find 30 coffins and their mummies all untouched by grave robbers is extremely rare."

Had to wait for over an hour in very cold conditions on a 1440' hillside for the sun to light the scene around Marconi's Carnarvon station this afternoon.

Some fabulous detail revealed around the antenna site. A curved trackbed for the construction of Mast 12's concrete bases for the 1923 extension array is a new discovery (centre, third image).

Raking winter sunlight picks out fine positive and negative relief detail at the lower end of the Marconi Carnarvon station. the square feature is the 50,000 gallon cooling water reservoir (presumably concrete roofed, supported by a brick pillar array).

Its history probably starts as a drove road, before tarmac was laid in the 1840s-1880s; the Highland railway line adjacent to the west was only constructed in the 1880s onwards.

Pipeline of Cwm Dyli hydro plant, fed by Llyn Llydaw below the summit of Yr Wyddfa.

Built in 1905, it was meant to supply a nearby railway but this fell into disarray. The plant went on to feed a north Wales AC grid, one of the first of its kind, that supplied slate quarries and, from 1914, the giant Marconi 'Carnarvon' trans-oceanic wireless station.

Some well-travelled rolling stock here, shunted into the sidings at the Tanfield Railway.
It's claimed to be the world's oldest railway, with a section dating from 1725 and other parts in use since 1621. In addition, the line runs past Causey Arch, the world's oldest railway bridge.

Weather after the passage of Storm Debi was lovely in the mountains, even if the wind resulted in water going straight up in a stream into the sky, not down the falls!

The house, probably a hafod (it had no fireplace) and thus for summer pastoral use, has no known name; working on this.

Belem, Lisbon has a remarkable range of structures including semi-ruinous greenhouses, together which feel a bit botanical gothic, but with many elements entangled with colonial histories of Portugal.

Large early 20th century green glass greenhouse relating to Colonial Gardens with smashed windows, allowing tropical plants to grow through in many places. Iron frame heavily rusted and glass not cleaned. Iron chimney rises to one side and iron walkway along top.

Cactus Greenhouse and behind lower pineapple greenhouse dating from 1940's used for research relating to Colonial Agricultural Garden and Museum. Glass is all missing, the grey concrete skeleton is standing, partially moss covered in places, the lower parts of columns have eroded revealing rusted iron superstructure beneath. Heavy iron doors rusted, beyond which cactus still grow.

Venice to start charging visitors entry fee next year (Reuters).

"Venice plans to experiment with an admission fee of 5 euros($5.35) for day trippers next year to try to manage the flow of tourists drawn to its historic canals, the city council said on Tuesday.

The fee will be applied on a trial basis on 30 days next year, focusing mainly on spring bank holidays and summer weekends when tourism numbers are at their peak. All visitors over the age of 14 will have to pay it.

The aim was to find "a new balance between the rights of those who live, study or work in Venice and those who visit the city," Venice tourism councillor Simone Venturini said."

"The Mütter joins medical and natural history museums around the world who are debating the ethical treatment of human remains. There is the question of provenance: at the Mütter, some specimens may have been accepted into the collection under dubious or outright unethical circumstances. Mütter curator Anna Dhoty has written about one unclear holding. Other provenance issues have recently been resolved after decades of negotiation. And in some instances, there is virtually no paper trail at all.

All this gets at a deeper, more troubling question: can it ever be ethical to own, or exhibit, someone else’s body? And if so, how should those bodies be displayed?"
