Another superb dish from the outstanding cookbook I mentioned yesterday (see alt text), a fantastic Western+Asian fusion. This one is “Marinated Shiitake Mushrooms with Chilled Vermicelli.” The ingredients: tomatoes, tomato paste, balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, thyme, herbs de Province, sugar, Tabasco, olive oil, onions, garlic, shiitake, vermicelli, scallions/chives, sesame oil, soy sauce, ginger, Chinese five spice powder, salt and pepper.

@hikingdude Here’s a loaf, now halfway gone. My husband had eaten a bunch of the nuts I’d purchased, so I rounded out the one cup of pecans needed for the recipe, with almonds. Also was unexpectedly low on raisins (can’t find currants here), so I added cranberries. The loaf is to be sliced very thin as a cocktail bread, “the perfect accompaniment to cheese or smoked salmon.” We topped it with Brie. DE-LISH!

In case anyone is wondering:

1. spray your muffin tins outside, otherwise the kitchen floor will become incredibly slippery and you will fall on your arse

2. it really is worth the extra trip into town to buy muffin cases because even though you've sprayed the tin your muffins will stick and tear when you're trying to turn them out. This is especially true if they're fruit muffins.

Made a short skirt from some left over material from the last skirt i did. Unlike the last one I did this doesn't have any tassels to tie it, it has belt loops instead. Made from quilt cover fabric.

Six kids (?) wearing normal-looking street clothes (pants, shirts, or dresses) but each is wearing a "mask" over their heads. Each "mask" is different. They appear to be made out of boxes that are just big enough to put their heads into. Each one is, of course, flat on the sides and on the top but they're covered in black "hair" that's probably made from yarn, I'd guess. The "hair" hangs down the sides of each "mask", including the face - except that each face has been cut free of the yarn so that the result is a black head with a white face. (Probably looks pretty spooky in the dark.) Each face has a cone nose (think of having an ice cream cone in the center of your face) with eyes and a mouth cut out of the box so the wearer can see and speak.

Hey home #Pasta makers - specifically #Vegan ones who use a pasta machine - how do you do it?

We've got a KitchenAId with the pasta making attachment. My other half - who is a wonderful #cook and knows pretty everything that goes on in a #kitchen - has tried several recipes and it just turns into heavy floury stodge.

The official recipe uses #eggs (as you'd expect) and various online recipes suggest mixing 00 flour with cornmeal, using olive oil to replace the fats of the eggs.

However, no joy and it's rather disappointing.

Can you share any tips?

Time to start making juice before the fruit flies get at them!

First need to clean the jars and get them hot.(we don't fully can/process the jars. Just make sure everything is hot so they self seal)

My mom requested chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. After consulting the Cookie Companion I made these. They spread quite a bit, but they are chewy and quite tasty. I might give this recipe another shot. It had so many ingredients though. I feel like you could achieve the same thing with fewer ingredients.

So, I have these #Urb flower jars from the #cannabis I get and they're these neat rounded dome things that have a screw on bottom.
I could see them used for some kind of mini display for a figurine or dice or even some #crafty critter one could make and display. I'm also curious about using them for storage of some type 🤔

Now that I live in the US, I am very aware of how a lot of food simply doesn’t taste as they should. Meat tastes weird. Ultra processed food is king. I’ve never been a crunchy health food person, but I care about quality. It’s also cheaper to make some of this stuff. So here’s a list!
