I use Pixabay for images to make my book covers (I pay the artists), and I was browsing for a potential replacement cover image for the book I’ve got coming out in November; I like the current draft cover but think I could do better.

It’s shocking, but not surprising, how much of it is AI-generated now. Admittedly I’m browsing for fantasy imagery, but something like 90% of my first page of results, sorted by most recently uploaded, was AI, and that’s just where the uploader has been upfront enough to include “AI generated” in the tags.

I think I’ll have to shift to istockphoto or other site where AI is currently banned. I preferred Pixabay as I figured artists got more of the cut of the donation (and I donated more than I’d have to pay on istockphoto) but unless they start adding a “human generated” tag or other way of sorting to find the human art, it’s unworkable to support artists on there.
