"Global heating will drive billions of people out of the “climate niche” in which humanity has flourished for millennia, a study has estimated, exposing them to unprecedented temperatures and extreme weather.
The world is on track for 2.7C of heating with current action plans and this would mean 2 billion people experiencing average annual temperatures above 29C by 2030, a level at which very few communities have lived in the past.
Up to 1 billion people could choose to migrate to cooler places, the scientists said, although those areas remaining within the climate niche would still experience more frequent heatwaves and droughts.
However, urgent action to lower carbon emissions and keep global temperature rise to 1.5C would cut the number of people pushed outside the climate niche by 80%, to 400 million."

Overcoming difficult challenges, the Ukrainian state has consciously chosen to move towards European standards, which are based on the three fundamental values of the Council of Europe - democracy, the rule of law and human rights. European law assumes that respect for and protection of fundamental human rights (primarily the right to life, liberty, security of person, prohibition of torture, right to respect for private and family life, prohibition of discrimination) is the main duty of the state.
Therefore, I appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a proposal to work on the issue of introducing the institution of registered civil partnership. [this appeal took place last fall]
As part of the implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy, the Government instructed the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine to develop and submit to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine a draft law on the elimination of discriminatory provisions that may violate the property and non-property rights of unmarried partners and the introduction of registered civil partnerships.

One disturbing element of the #Houston story is the way that business interests adapt to and accommodate the politics of hate. The insurance co. won’t cover the bar not because of ideology but because of $$$ exposure. A bar that allows drag is now seen as too risky to underwrite. So the violence and dehumanization which #MAGA injects into society are now simply part of business calculus. This is the nexus between #capitalism and #fascism.

3 arrested after caregivers in #NewMexico accused of torturing a developmentally disabled woman who died in the hospital after the discovery of her condition in a border stop on the way to Mexico supposedly to get her medical care.
The caregivers were paid thousands of dollars a month through a special program meant to offer an alternative to institutional care.

The 17th of May is designated as IDAHOBIT, which stands for the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia, and Transphobia.
This day is held annually to bring attention to the prejudice and violence that members of the LGBTQIA+ community suffer worldwide. This day was initially marked in 2005 and has since grown to become an important occasion for recognizing and supporting the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
