December 4 is another sock holiday? Well that will probably make a certain mischievous 16th Century Munaciello (actually Arlecchino in a "clever" fairy disguise) happy!
Tonight, Monday December 4, from 8-9:30 PM EST (GMT-5), will be my 191st #ambient #guitar #improv #livestream of the #pandemic. I bought a lot of drone on BC Friday, and we have colder weather, so tonight might be...glacial. Might just bring out the home-built Res-O-Glas, if it feels right. Whatever happens will happen slowly. https://twitch.tv/onezeromusic
Take the most interesting and often chaotically zany path!
"A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting." ----Third Doctor (Robert Holmes via Jon Pertwee)
Oh, we almost missed Let's Hug Day! Plutonic and romantic gestures are a staple of commedia dell'arte and important connections for many of us. So practice some consensual hugging today - mustard and sausage warrior queens only optional.
What does it mean to "be myself"? I reflect on being crushed by a teacher's remark at a school play, and how I now view the experience.

To improve the learning at your events, ensure your meeting messages are received. That's what I learned from the improv exercise "You".
December 1 is Eat a Red #Apple Day! Or possibly use one as you are Capitano Testosteroné in a commedia dell'arte play at Pennsic disguised as the beautiful Isabella to take her place posing for a nude Renaissance portrait and fruit-filled still life?
"The Battle of Fruits and Vegetables" might return at Zipcon in February 2024!
Here's this month's play talk play with Maria Sappho:
In this one we talk about instrument design (including her funky "to be played by mushrooms" instrument), improv structure/form, and the act of communicating (or not!) after performance.
It's National Computer Security Day! Make sure your technology and yourself are protected, especially online - and not just from fictional parody anime mad scientists with hacking-capable of antique typewriters! ... So cool... Sumditch.
My 190th #ambient #improv #livestream of the pandemic era is now available. This one's on #pedalsteel, and is particularly bassy and dense, with some reed-like and...instrument-adjacent, deep-underwater timbres. $0/name-your-price at https://snwv.bandcamp.com/album/music-at-a-distance-190
Thanks to a rush of brains to the head (or was that a giant D20?) we've finally completed a rough first draft of our D&D commedia dell'arte parody "A Mockery of Mimicry", a project we've been working on since 2019. Of course it's still a still a mess but we have some time before the premiere at Cleveland ConCoction in March 2024!
Last week we successfully tested over Zoom the draft for our newest commedia dell'arte "A Comedic Farce of a Fraudulent Cow in Calcio Fiorentino"! A few tweaks and more research into Renaissance sports and we'll be ready to start rehearsing for the OSU Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies's conference in February 2024!
Our commedia dell'arte plans for 2024 continue to chug along. In addition to writing drafts for "A Comedic Farce of a Fraudulent Cow in Calcio Fiorentino" and "A Mockery of Mimicry", we've started to storyboard "The Six-Sided Love Triangle" which might premiere at Pennsic!
Wrapping up "The Deadly Sword" last week means i Sebastiani and friends have workshopped almost all of the historic commedia dell'arte scenarios from the Botarga collection! Tonight we move on to "Emperor Maumet & Diogenes"!

Outrageous costumes! Zany laughter! Chaotic fun! Being childlike at heart is important to our troupe so, as we continue to celebrate the 60th anniversary of "Doctor Who", the words of the Fourth Doctor (via Terrance Dicks & Tom Baker) always rings true: "There’s no point in being grown up if you can’t be childish sometimes."
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of "Doctor Who", here is a chaotic collection of 60 1-second clips from across the Patchwork Multiverse of Space & Time of our parody productions and other fun over the years from our original home at Case Western Reserve University to Marcon to Cleveland ConCoction to Woo-Con to the CWRU Film Society to Oddmall to InConJunction and so many more!

Happy 60th Birthday to "Doctor Who", one of our fave fandoms that has inspired dozens of our parody plays and encouraged us to expand beyond our commedia dell'arte roots ... through all of time and space!
Happy Thanksgiving from The Confused Greenies of Players' Patchwork Theatre Company! Try not to be as ravenous as commedia dell'arte's always hungry and hapless harlequin Arlecchino who accidently confesses to "devouring" Vittoria! 🤣
📯 This Saturday, November 25th at 8:00pm, I’m guesting with BATS Improv main company Generations (an improvised family saga) at Fort Mason.
Shows are pay what you will; reserve tickets here https://bio.site/kala I’d love to see you there!
Monday night's #live #ambient #guitar #improv (on an old $60 Univox in Fahey tuning) is now up, and...it is slow. At times it feels geological. If you need a whiff of eternity in your listening, check it out. $0/name-your-price at https://snwv.bandcamp.com/album/music-at-a-distance-189
Let's roll that die again! We're once more aiming to stage our first D20 project play in 2024! This week we're making progress on a new concept for the draft of our D&D parody commedia dell'arte "A Mockery of Mimicry"!

To prep for last night's final workshop of "The Deadly Sword" from the Botarga collection we finally made another character relationship flowchart of this historic commedia dell'arte scenario!
Today World Television Day! As a live theatre troupe, most of our activity is on stage but not counting YouTube recordings of shows of the occasional performance over Zoom, we've appeared on TV at least once during a feature spot for the first Cleveland ConCoction! Fitting this was of our Dalek Skarino since this week is the 60th anniversary of one of our favorite programs on the telly - "Doctor Who"!

Tonight, i Sebastiani and friends should wrap up "The Deadly Sword" with a third bonus Zoom workshop to finetune this historic commedia dell'arte scenario from the Botarga collection!
It's fitting that National Absurdity Day happens the same week as the anniversary of "Doctor Who"! While pretty much all of our shows are absurd, our latest Dottore Who parody play featured both a Dalek and the TARDIS transforming into magical anime girls and then into a kaiju monster and a giant mecha robot respectively all during a lecture on fanservice given by a god-like paladin bunny girl! 🤣
Happy Odd Sock Day from The Confused Greenies of Players' Patchwork Theatre Company and a 16th Century Munaciello (actually Arlecchino in a "clever" fairy disguise)!
This week is the 60th anniversary of "Doctor Who" which has given our troupe so much inspiration!

Patricia Madson’s first improv maxim is "Say Yes!" This reminds me of a harrowing incident at the closing session of a three-day conference…
Monday night's #live #ambient #pedalsteel #improv is now available: slow, sometimes dense, sometimes sparse, sometimes microtonal. Timbral variation comes from steel and wooden slides. Listen and download: $0/name-your-price at https://snwv.bandcamp.com/album/music-at-a-distance-188
When You Fall - a poem with photos of the waterfall that inspired it
Obviously, the waterfall behind our home is not ‘ours’ at all. We just call it that out of habit.

Monday night's #live #ambient #pedalsteel #improv performance is now up. Even by my slow standards, this one's slower: seven pieces, each over ten minutes. It's the time frame of natural processes, like the movement of stars or clouds. $0/name-your-price.
If you are voting by mail, you must have your ballot postmarked by TODAY (November 6) or dropped off in-person to the board of elections by Election Day tomorrow. Use your voice and use your vote!

Each one of these seems slower than usual, but maybe they're all equally slow. Others often have recognizable timbres, but this one's more abstract. $0/name-your-price. https://snwv.bandcamp.com/album/music-at-a-distance-186
just posted a new video - 'It All Comes Together In The End' uses a much under-explored way of making music with a looper: looping the melody and then varying the chords underneath, rather than being stuck with the same four chord loop for hours. Give it a watch, it's fun ;)
Me too. My response is to suggest the "Yes, and" method, which I learned at Bay Area Theatre Sports.
I want show people how we can move the story forward.
Recent revelations around Bandcamp have been disturbing, and I hope the new owners reconsider how laid-off employees were treated.
If you're voting with your purchase, note that my releases are available for $0/name-your-price.
I once built a one-shot afternoon game to run with my players around "yes, and..."
I told them we were going to play a one shot, but wanted them to ask me questions about the setting and characters first. Anything they asked, I said "yes, and..." Until they realized I wasn't answering questions so much as letting them define the setting and their characters.
"Do I have super powers?" Yes, and everytime you use them, they tire you out."
Ended up with "B" team supers

Monday night's #ambient #pedalsteel #improv--my 184th ambient #guitar performance of the pandemic--is now up on Bandcamp. (I'm more of a cost center than a profit center for them, so let's see how long this all lasts.)
In some of these pieces, the pedal steel takes on a chamber-ensemble timbre, while others are particularly vocal-sounding, with a bit of an October feeling. $0/name-your-price.
Yesterday I released this past weekend's live performance, and just after midnight released Monday night's 183rd #ambient #guitar #improv livestream. After various technical struggles, the music presented itself as very calming. $0/name-your-price.

Every Friday I do a #Bandcamp Listening Party for a newly remastered, or brand new, album. This week it's "Episode 50: A New Hope" - released a week after my 50th birthday, and just a couple of days after I was given the positive result of my chemotherapy. So music that's about hope, the future, the unknown, about gratitude, love & care. Come chat about it on Friday night (UK Time) - the RSVP link is here, so I know how many canapés to buy https://stevelawson.bandcamp.com/merch/episode-50-a-new-hope-listening-party

The 60th anniversary of "Doctor Who" is coming soon! But today we can #FlashBackFriday to epic weekend at the first Pandoracon in Cincinnati, OH when we staged a trilogy of parody plays involving the bumbling time-traveler and commedia dell'arte including "Dottore Who & the Commedia Arch"! #FBF
Did you know Second City pays instructors less than one half the industry average?
Instructors and staff deserve a fair contract. Come support this Saturday, the 625th day since negotiations with Second City Chicago Training Center leadership began.
Monday night's #ambient #MoogGuitar #improv session is now up on Bandcamp. The music this time consists of shorter pieces that feel longer, letting things become what they are. $0/name-your-price at https://snwv.bandcamp.com/album/music-at-a-distance-182
Tonight, Monday September 25 (8-9:30 PM EDT/ GMT-4), I'll perform my 182nd #ambient #guitar #improv #livestream of the still-with-us #pandemic era. Tonight I'll likely use #MoogGuitar as a reminder about all the Moog employees who have lost their jobs due to the recent InMusic acquisition.

Monday's #ambient #pedalsteel #improv has flowed into Bandcamp. The 181st of this series, this one drifts through natural and unnatural settings, with symphonic and abstract timbres. It's a journey. $0/name-your-price. https://snwv.bandcamp.com/album/music-at-a-distance-181
I really love being surprised by my own music 🙂 Was listening to something on YouTube, left the room and when I came back it was auto-playing this, and I went 'wow! That's great!' before I realised it was me 😂
