Ciekawy byłem, co się sprawdzi lepiej na co dzień – 77mm obiektyw w iPhone 15 Pro cyfrowo zoomowany do 120 mm czy 120 mm obiektyw w iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Ważne informacje

Testy były bardzo ograniczone, bo Dominik mi dopadł 15 Pro Maxa zanim miałem okazję wybrać się na konkretne testy, aby porównać z 15 Pro.
Wybrałem drzewo liściaste w pochmurny dzień, bo ładnie na nim widać nie tylko wpływ rozdzielczości (detale na i w liściach), ale również szum matrycy na ciemnej zieleni, w cieniach.
Zdjęcia zrobione w HEIF i ProRAW, które zostały wysłane przez AirDropa do MacBooka Pro z macOS Ventura (aby wykluczyć brak kompatybilności z nowymi formatami), które potem zostały przekonwertowane z DNG i HEIC na JPG w Preview / Podglądzie.
Wszystkie zdjęcia został skompresowane na cele WWW.
Zdjęcia pełnowymiarowe miały zmniejszoną rozdzielczość do 1500×2000 px, ale służą one tylko do podglądu kadru. Istotne są 100% cropy o wymiarach 700×700 px ze środka kadru.

Format: HEIF

Pierwsza para porównuje 3x zoom z iPhone’a 15 Pro z symulacją 3x zoomu w 15 Pro Max. Ten drugi nie ma takiej ogniskowej – ma odpowiednik 13 mm, 24 mm i od razu 120 mm – i wykorzystuje do tego cyfrowy zoom z matrycy głównej z obiektywem 24 mm.

iPhone 15 Pro 3x – 100% crop

iPhone 15 Pro Max 1x → 3x – 100% crop

Zaskoczył mnie tutaj fakt, że 3x w 15 Pro z matrycy 12 MP radzi sobie lepiej niż 3x cyfrowy zoom na większej i lepszej głównej matrycy 48 MP w 15 Pro Max. Spodziewałem się, że będzie odwrotnie, mimo wszystko.

Prawa: iPhone 15 Pro Max | 5x | 120 mm
Format: HEIF

Tym razem zrobiłem to samo zdjęcie, ale iPhone 15 Pro miał ustawiony zoom 3x (77 mm) cyfrowo powiększony do 5x (120 mm), aby go bezpośrednio porównać ze 120 mm 5-krotnym zoomem w iPhone 15 Pro Max.

iPhone 15 Pro 3x → 5x – 100% crop

iPhone 15 Pro Max 5x – 100% crop

5x zoom optyczny jest tutaj lepszy od 3x z 15 Pro, który został powiększony do 5x, ale różnica nie jest tak duża, jak w przypadku pierwszego porównania. Niemniej jednak uważam, że w tych warunkach 5x zoom wygrywa – lepiej sobie radzi z prześwietlaniami pomiędzy liśćmi i wyciąga więcej detali. Nie jest to jednak wystarczająco, aby chcieć nosić 15 Pro Maxa w moim przypadku.

Niestety nie miałem okazji powtórzyć tego testu w różnych warunkach oświetleniowych, więc trudno powiedzieć co stanie się w warunkach ekstremalnych, ale 120 mm wydaje się być porównywalny jakościowo do 77 mm. Najlepsze zdjęcia pod względem jakości i rozdzielczości będzie oczywiście robiła matryca główna z obiektywem 24 mm, a w każdym wypadku cyfrowy zoom będzie pogarszał jakość – mniej lub bardziej.

Robiłem też testy ProRAW, ale nie wynika z nich nic ciekawego, poza tym, że wymagają obróbki i są zdecydowanie bardziej miękkie od HEIF-ów. Jak ktoś nie zamierza poważnie obrabiać tych ProRAW, to radzę ich unikać, więc jak nie wiecie do końca co robicie, to HEIF lub HEIF Max dadzą Wam więcej.

Dzisiaj spędziłem kilka godzin z aparatami w iPhonie 15 i iPhonie 15 Pro Max, i mam kilka wniosków. Przy okazji wyrobiłem sobie też zdanie na temat kilku innych rzeczy, więc zapraszam poniżej.

Ten wpis zostanie podzielony na strony. Na dole znajdziecie strzałki, aby przełączać się na kolejne strony. Wynika to z tego, że zdjęć jest sporo i będą niektórym osobom przeciążały przeglądarki, szczególnie w telefonach.

Zdjęcia, które zobaczycie poniżej, są wyeksportowane bez żadnych modyfikacji z Photos / Zdjęcia na macOS Ventura z HEIF do JPG, zmniejszone do 3000 px na szerokość i skompresowane o 80%. Na końcu wpisu znajdziecie linka do paczki JPG-ów w oryginalnej rozdzielczości – waży ponad 770 MB.

Wszystkie zdjęcia poniżej to HEIF lub HEIF Max. Nie testowałem ProRAW (jeszcze, będzie o tym w osobnym wpisie).

Kliknięcie w zdjęcie powiększa je na pełny ekran. Możecie wykonywać gesty na nich lub nawigować strzałkami na klawiaturze.

Pierwsze wrażenia

Aparaty w obu modelach – iPhone 15 (Plus) i 15 Pro (Max) – mają więcej ustawień niż kiedykolwiek.

Potencjalnie najważniejszym będzie Tryb zdjęć / Photo Mode, gdzie do wyboru mamy 12 MP lub 24 MP. Szczerze, podejrzewam że przez 99% czasu 99% z nas wystarczy 12 MP. Te telefony mają maleńkie matryce i 24 MP niewiele wnosi, szczególnie w przypadku rodziny 15 (Plus). Przy 15 Pro (Max) ma to trochę więcej sensu, ze względu na nowszą matrycę, która zdaje się wyciągać ciut więcej detali. Dodatkowo możemy też zdefiniować czy chcemy robić ProRAW czy HEIF Max. ProRAW 48 MP zajmuje ok. 75 MB na każde zdjęcie, ProRAW 12 MP potrzebuje ok. 25 MB, a HEIF Max (do) 48 MP (zależnie od aparatu) potrzebuje zaledwie 5 MB. To 15-krotnie mniej niż przy ProRAW 48 MP. Mniejszy rozmiar zdjęć oznacza też mniej wymaganego wolnego miejsca na telefonie i w iCloudzie oraz w backupach.

W przypadku nagrywania wideo ProRes, jest nie tylko możliwość nagrywania go na zewnętrzne napędy, np. SSD po USB-C, ale można również zdecydować, czy nagrywamy HDR, SDR czy log. Final Cut Pro już obsługuje z automatu materiały nagrane w Apple log.

Wideo

Najciekawszą nowością w iPhone’ach 15 Pro (Max) jest możliwość nagrywania ProRes bezpośrednio na zewnętrzny dysk, co jeszcze będę testował wkrótce, oraz opcja nagrywania go w Apple log, co demonstruję na powyższym wideo. Powoli staje się to naprawdę świetna kamera, szczególnie z nowymi możliwościami zooma. Więcej wrażeń w najbliższych tygodniach…

Zdjęcia

Osoby kupujące iPhone’a 15 (Plus) powinny być super zadowolone z faktu, że mają teraz 48 MP matrycę, która nie tylko robi lepsze zdjęcia (polecam zostać przy 12 MP, bo ustawienie 24 MP niewiele wnosi, no chyba, że rzeczywiście będziecie często cropowali), ale przede wszystkim oferuje 2x zoom. To nie jest po prostu cyfrowy zoom, ale inny sposób wykorzystania matrycy. Gdy robimy zdjęcie przy 26 mm (1x) to wykorzystywane są wszystkie 48 MP, z których powstaje obraz 12 lub 24 MP, ale przy ustawieniu 52 mm (2x) wykorzystywanych jest „tylko” 12 MP z samego środka matrycy. Zdjęcia 2x będą więc gorsze jakościowo od 1x, ale będą lepsze jakościowo od 1x po cropie do 2x – w skrócie, lepiej korzystajcie z 1x lub 2x zamiast cropować ręcznie, bo Photonic Engine wykonuje lepszą optymalizację.

W przypadku 15 Pro (Max) wygląda na to, że zdjęcia 24 MP oferują ciut więcej w temacie detali, więc dla większej liczby osób może warto zdecydować się na tę dodatkową rozdzielczość kosztem dodatkowego miejsca. W sytuacjach, kiedy potencjalnie najlepsza możliwa jakość i elastyczność jest konieczna, 15 Pro (Max) oferuje ProRAW (do 48 MP) oraz HEIF Max (do 48 MP) – ten pierwsze zajmuje ok. 75 MB, a ten drugi ok. 5 MB. Po premierze 14 Pro wiele osób robiło zdjęcia 48 MP w RAW, które potem konwertowali do HEIF, żeby zajmowały mniej miejsca. Postaram się taki scenariusz przetestować też tutaj, ale na podstawie tego, co mówiło Apple, otrzymamy w ten sposób gorszą jakość niż gdybyśmy Photonic Engine pozwolili zrobić swoje od razu do odpowiedniego formatu.

Obiektywy w iPhone’ach nadal nieciekawie flarują pod światło, pomimo nowych powłok antyodblaskowych. Jest to szczególnie irytujące na wideo. Zdjęcia robione bezpośrednio pod ciepłe barwowo słońce, czy to wschodząco czy zachodzącao, nadal wyglądają słabo. To sytuacja, z którą iPhone sobie od lat słabo radzi i jestem w szoku, że jeszcze tego nie ogarnęli.

Nowy obiektyw daje ciekawe możliwości jeśli chodzi o panoramy. Chciałbym tutaj zobaczyć możliwość automatycznego złożenia panoramy z dwóch, trzech lub więcej poziomych panoram, żeby była miała więcej pikseli w pionie.

Ciekawy byłem naturalnego bokeh z głównej matrycy/obiektywu i jestem mile zaskoczony tym z iPhone’a 15. Niestety, w przypadku 15 Pro (Max) trzeba wyłączyć automatyczne przełączanie się w tryb macro. Na powyższym zdjęciu po prawej demonstruję maksymalne zbliżenie bez wyłączenia funkcji automatycznego przełączania się na macro (celowo, bo nie zamierzam tego wyłączać), przez co bokeh daje mniejsze rozmycie. W przyszłości, przy testach macro, wrócę do tematu.

Tryb portretowy przedmiotomiPhone 15

Pomimo, że to kolejna generacja trybu portretowego w iPhone’ach bez LiDAR, to nadal są błędy. Podpowiem jedynie, abyście szukali ich w rejonie szprych. Rozumiem też, że to jest tryb portretowy głównie dla ludzi i zwierząt, jak reklamuje go Apple, ale inni już to dawno ogarnęli i działa to tam lepiej.

iPhone 15 Pro Max

Od lewej: 24 mm, 48 mm, 120 mm x2

LiDAR nie pomaga ze szprychami, ale chociaż kilka innych elementów nie ma błędów (kable przy kierownicy). Nadal oczekuję tutaj więcej.

Ten 120 mm obiektyw pozwala na nowe spojrzenie na niektóre tematy. Spodziewam się gorszych efektów w warunkach słabego oświetlenia niż z głównej matrycy 1x, ale w końcu mamy tutaj tele, którego zbliżenia nie zastąpimy sensownie cyfrowo. Może kiedyś. Szkoda jedynie, że to tylko 5x.

Robiąc ten kadr patrzyłem na pomarańczową fasadę pod PKiN i już sobie wyobrażałem ujęcie z 30x obiektywu, gdyby takowy tutaj był.

Taki 120 mm zasięg daje zdecydowanie większe możliwości twórcze. Tylko czemu nie więcej i czemu musieliśmy na to czekać tak długo?

Pierwsze wrażenia

Wstępnie, w warunkach dobrego oświetlenia, jest lepiej niż się spodziewałem po 120 mm obiektywie w iPhonie 15 Pro Max i jestem ciekawy, jak zachowuje się 72 mm obiektyw w iPhonie 15 Pro – to sprawdzę wkrótce. Matryca 48 MP wstępnie daje świetne wyniki i zdaje się być lepsza niż przed rokiem ta w 14 Pro lub dzisiejszym iPhonie 15. Nie zmienia to jednak faktu, że 15-tka w końcu otrzymała sensowną alternatywę dla grupy trzech obiektywów w 15 Pro (Max). Szkoda tylko, że tak późno. Denerwuje mnie też rozbieżność między 15 Pro a 15 Pro Max, ale rozumiem, że nowy obiektyw tele wyposażony w pryzmat może się nie zmieścić w mniejszym bracie.

Za karygodne uważam fakt, że iPhone 15 nie ma trybu macro, pomimo że przed rokiem miał go iPhone 14 Pro. To w końcu sprzęt za 4699 PLN – w tej cenie powinien mieć makro, 120 Hz ekran i parę innych bajerów, które są standardem u konkurencji.

iPhone być może i jest najpopularniejszym aparatem na rynku, i muszę mu przyznać, że robi bardzo powtarzalne zdjęcia, ale nadal jest pole do poprawy. Cieszy mnie, że pozostawiają też miejsce do edycji zdjęć – nie są z automatu przeprocesowane, szczególnie w temacie kontrastu. Konkurencja go nadal wyprzedza, pomimo nieznacznie starszego produktu, prawie pod każdym względem. Funkcjonalność drugorzędna oraz UX aplikacji aparatu u Apple’a są natomiast świetne – mam tutaj na myśli Live Photos oraz ich dodatkowe funkcje (pętla, długi czas naświetlania, itp.), tryb Cinematic, time-lapse, oraz układ wszystkich przycisków w app.

Jest bardzo dobrze, ale nadal w tej cenie oczekuję więcej.

Z zaskoczeniem też oglądam lub czytam recenzje ludzi, którzy nigdy nie mieli innych smartfonów czy aparatów w rękach i zachwycają się funkcjami, które są używane od lat lub nawet dekad. Nie, to nie Apple wymyśliło małe okienko w rogu wizjera z pełnym kadrem, aby łatwiej było się zorientować gdzie zoomujemy…

Tradycyjnie, jeśli macie jakieś pytania, to zapraszam do kontaktu, a jeśli jeszcze nie widzieliście unboxingu, to zapraszam do jego obejrzenia.

Unlike deciduous trees that surround their seeds with fruit, pine trees produce seed-bearing cones in order to reproduce. Both male and female cones are on the same tree. Typically, the male cones that produce pollen are located on the lower branches of the tree. Open camera
On line that reads ... VIDEO PHOTO PORTRAIT, slide upward to reveal settings.
Tap the one that is a ± in a circle. This is exposure compensation.
Set to -2.0.
Zoom in on Moon.
Tap until it comes into focus in the yellow square and hold until AE/AF LOCK shows at the top.
If the moon is still too bright, slide the little yellow sun to the right of the yellow box to make the image dimmer until you can see the mare on the moon properly.
Unpinch and recompose the image, if you want some background buildings, trees.
Take a burst of pictures by pressing and sliding the shutter button to the left. You hear rapid shutter sounds. Hold for a few seconds. (If you are taking video, you slid right.)

Since your hand is shaking (everyone's is), the burst technique combined with the camera stabilization will find the few instants between the up/down/side to side where your hands stopped.

Save the best image in the burst, which will be amazing.

IMPORTANT: Reset the exposure compensation to 0.0, or you'll be cursing me out for the next few weeks.

A less usual sight, these masked lapwings (plovers) strolling along the waterline on the Brisbane river. It’s interesting how, fro a distance, despite their very recognisable faces they mostly disappear into the landscape.

The muddy shoreline of the Brisbane River at low tide, the water washing up to the point where the mangrove breathing roots stop. The foreground is littered with rocks and rubble as well as many mangrove roots, while picking their way through the thinning roots just above the waterline are three masked lapwing. These are roughly pigeon sized birds, with brown backs almost exactly the colour of the river mud, white chests, black heads and a distinctive yellow wattle on their face.

I was a little surprised to find this 5cm hawkmoth sitting on a tree trunk in broad daylight, but closer inspection suggested that it was probably recovering after a close shave. Still a beautiful moth, probably Theretra species.

A large, dark brown hawkmoth sitting on a light grey tree trunk. The moth’s body is cigar-shaped, about five centimetres long, with large, almost hemispherical dark brown eyes. Its wings are swept back from its body in a “V” or delta configuration, tapered at the ends and slightly mottled. Its legs and antennae are cream coloured. Its top thorax and abdomen have some bare patches where its scales have been rubbed or scratched off, suggesting some accident.

I’ve been a bit slack posting the iPhone happy snaps. Here’s a White Tussock Moth caterpillar on a tree trunk, encountered on the morning walk. The caterpillar is tiny, about 20mm.

The caterpillar’s body is basically black, however each segment has a lot of additional decoration. Some have a simple circumferential pattern of white dots, others have more complex symmetrical patterns of white lines, however these decorations are in turn mostly hidden by the variously coloured tufts of hair growing from each segment. Each has two large white tufts pointing out sideways, and two orange-brown tufts sticking up vertically. Even that isn’t the end of the show, its head and final tail segment sport longer, larger black tufts sticking out at 45 degrees, and the antepenultimate and penultimate segments each have a bright white spot on them.

Charcoal clouds drift across the bottom of the frame against a dawning sky, almost black against the delicate purple-grey gradient of growing light behind them. Most of the frame is just a wash of colour, lightest at the bottom left, where the sun will rise, and darkest at the top right. Almost invisible, two-thirds of the way up the sky, floating above the clouds is the tiny crescent moon, just a tiny silver sliver in the sky.

This is another twofer, a pic I think fits into both dogwalking and serious.

Two rainbow lorikeets perched, side by side, in identical poses on a palm inflorescence, eating fruit. Both birds are completely upside-down, heads pointing down, and only their tails cocked out at identical angles. The palm inflorescence is large and extremely dense, hundreds of yellow strands hanging down like thickly braided hair from a stem arcing out at right-angles from the trunk. In total it is much larger than the birds. Also in view is part of the trunk, and a profusion of green palm leaves and blue sky.

Taken on the dogwalk a couple of days ago, but continuing the themes of flowers and digital art.

“They’re flowers, Jim, but not as we know them”

Four visions of a Heliconia.

Heliconia flowers and broad green leaves. The flowers are a bright red-pink, and extravagantly shaped like a chain of large birds’ beaks, each about the size of a hand, facing in alternating directions. It’s a flamboyant and unusual flower in both size and shape. In each of the following four digital manipulations the original has been modified. In this one, the image has been minutely swirled, giving something of the effect of paint strokes, but more like minute embroidery. It’s not visible from a distance.

In this second vision the colours of the image have been divided into polygons of varying sizes, delineating areas of roughly similar hue. It’s like breaking it down into pixels, but of both irregular size and shape.

This vision continues the process, further breaking the image into similar areas of shape and colour, however the intensity and saturation of the colours has been increased, making the overall effect both bolder and more abstract again.

This final vision radically alters the underlying organic shapes, breaking the image into Sierpinski triangles, which nevertheless retain the underlying hues, and still have a faint echo of the form in the size and orientation of the triangles.

I’ll stick with the dawn theme of my more serious photography post (https://aus.social/@infinite8horizon/109853135258327440),so here’s an early-morning dogwalk shot from an iPhone 6s of the river skyline, crescent moon and Venus.

Dawn over the Brisbane river, taken from the western (north) bank looking east. The image is divided roughly in half between river and sky, with a dark strip of silhouetted trees and occasional lights separating the two. The clear sky is reflected in the river, a diffuse yellow-orange on the horizon grading to a deep almost black blue overhead. A fingernail crescent moon and Venus are still visible in the sky.

Madagascar palm, Pachypodium lameri

The extremely spiky trunk of a madagascar palm. The trunk is covered in a dense spiral pattern of spikes, approximately two to three centimetres apart, and up to two centimetres long. Each spike is made up of three very sharp, conical, angled spines or thorns, the lower two longer than the upper, and in the same horizontal plane but at about thirty degrees to each other. The top spine is angled upwards at about thirty degrees, bisecting the angle of the lower two. It’s a fearsome array.

(Strictly speaking this isn’t a dogwalking shot, since the only access to this beach is through Noosa National Park where dogs are strictly forbidden, however it’s just around the point from the Sunshine Beach dog beach of which I have far too many shots, so here’s a slightly different one. It’s a stitched iPhone 3GS pic, be nice.)

A typical “looking down the beach to the jutting out point” shot, but pleasing nonetheless. The view is angled left to right along a low, vegetated foreshore and golden beach down to where a heavily treed ridge runs down to form a point, cutting off the horizon. The sun is shining brightly, and the sea is a vivid blue. The sky is cloudless, lighter blue on the horizon, and deeper blue higher up. A small surf is running, with a few white breakers running in to shore. A few people are just visible in the distance, near the end of the beach by the point.

Fallen leaves 03

This is a bit of an aberration in the dogwalking series, since they’re nearly always straight photography, and my non-dogwalking (as distinct from dog non-walking or non-dog walking) posts may be less representational or more deliberately artistic. Am I still talking?
Anyway, here’s a plain old iPhone6s shot with some help from Lightroom.

Fallen, yellowed fig tree leaves lying randomly on the ground exactly as they’ve fallen.
The leaves are a very uniform, clean yellow colour and mostly of similar size, so the strongly patterned appearance has been enhanced by reducing the background pavement to nearly black and slightly boosting the luminance of the leaves, resulting in a slightly surreal pattern of yellow on black.
