In print, I mapped where parishes were being subsumed and merged in #StLouis city and county — and where they weren't.
And online we charted the networks of parishes that will be sharing pastors.

Most of my #business #journalism isn't generalist. This piece, however, is. On its surface, we're talking lawsuits, energy utilities as political football, giants in the playground, pressure, & counter-pressure... Underneath, there's more than just what's at issue for those who invest, there's also a hell of a lot that deals with just how politics is working.

Well acted, but what kept me into this film was the accurate depiction of how real investigative journalism is done. It makes the term “fake news” kinda laughable when you see to what lengths these two determined women go to in order to get the story right.

#USA #PressFreedom #Journalism #News #Assange #Wikileaks: "All that matters in this case is that Assange was engaging in acts of journalism indistinguishable from the acts carried out every day in the New York Times, the Guardian and elsewhere. If he can be prosecuted for those acts, so can they.
It’s why virtually every single civil liberties, press freedom and human rights organization in the world has repeatedly urged the justice department to drop these dangerous charges.
Now, all newspapers know this. It’s why when the charges first came out every editor condemned them. Since then, the New York Times and the Guardian have signed a letter calling the charges “dangerous” and for them to be dropped. But that’s not sufficient. There’s not been consistent pressure on the justice department, there’s no campaigning by the newspapers, there’s no constant reminders on social media – nothing."

@jayrosen_nyu Many suitable alternatives, some of which I have seen in coverage: Hard-line, hard-right, far-right, extreme right. The word "conservative" politically has lost its meaning.#journalism #USPol
The preview image on this #Reuters graphics piece had me scratching my head ... was it a graphical glitch caused by Twitter's poor image resizing algorithms (which have messed up plenty of my textmode screenshots in the past)? ... Or was it intentional?
Either way, it's kind of cool ... it's like a photo slowly becoming an Atari 400/800/XL/XE screen.

This morning on Assigned we're looking at how the sausage of extermination is being sold to the mainstream public by mainstream conservative columnists.
Jonah Goldberg wrote today in the LA Times about the upside of political violence targeting brands who advertise to the queer community.
He didn't refer to violent threats, of course. No, no, those are just "excesses" of the "anti-woke campaign." #journalism #trans
No surprise that #Succession is the show finale the mainstream political press is covering obsessively… as with #SNL, it’s a show that decision makers at these orgs think is important. But it’s not the most watched streaming show by far, nor is #SNL today a show that merits weekly recaps in major newspapers. Leaders at the #WashingtonPost and #NewYorkTimes make choices that reflect their world views — biases — by deciding what to cover and not cover. Goes far beyond TV. #journalism #USPol
It's wired in, it's blatant, and it's old news, but to me it remains pretty remarkable that the establishment press in the U.S. uses the term "conservative" to mean any action the extreme right wing favors.
The more extreme the act, the more "conservative" are the actors!
Thus, the Freedom Caucus in the House — the members of which are the most ready to let the U.S. default on its debt — are routinely described as the most conservative faction in the government.
For the millionth time… editors, the #media and #journalists… a #Tesla vehicle is, **at no time**, capable of “self-driving”.
There is no “self-driving mode”.
Publishing these terms and descriptions only serve to advance Tesla’s and #Musk’s lies and are an immense public safety hazard.
Peace! You can call me Bry, they/them. I was born in 2002, and am 21 at time of writing.
I call myself a storyteller because I do many forms of storytelling and it's a nice summary of all of them. Currently, I'm focusing on #writing, mostly #journalism. I am also interested in #theatre, the #marchingarts, #music, and other forms of telling stories.
I am #disabled in several ways. I wear ear defenders regularly, and probably need to start using some sort of mobility aid. If you wanna talk about shared experiences, it would be my pleasure!
I am #muslim, and love studying and learning about all religions. I am considering becoming a chaplain of some kind. I feel I may be able to help other queer and progressive folk who feel alienated by their religious communities.
I am also plural—the world inside our head is massive, confusing, and terrifying. We mostly present as a single individual, though. It's just what works for us/me.
I am some sort of communist, though I haven't been able to read much theory. I think living your beliefs is more important than academeizing them anyway.
I have a deep hatred of car dependent infrastructure and car culture. I try to live my life without using a car as much as possible. I guess that falls under #urbanism, though I can't think of a super clever way to incorporate that tag.
My DMs are open, if you ever want to talk! You can ask for my discord or instagram as well. I hope you find something worthwhile here!
Here's something I wrote for @JURISTnews about the fraught historic relationship between the #WhiteHouse and its press corps -- a topic I'll explore in greater depth in a book to be published next year. https://www.jurist.org/commentary/2023/05/white-house-at-odds/ #journalism #media #presidency
