I enjoy #kpop a lot so it's nice that there is a ton to listen to but some groups release like... 3+ albums *every year*. I know they have huge teams doing a lot of the writing and arranging (or all of it) but that is still a huge repertoire to have to learn learn. Seems... unsustainable...
i heard jk performed at something called "global citizen festival" today, but all i can find so far is the 6 hour livestream. so i'm scanning through it looking for my boy and it's pretty funny.

i know that with all the things going on in the world, kpop is so insignificant, but i'm actually happy to see that hwasa has put out a body-positivity song.
hwasa is an idol who has been derided for her looks and body. they said she was "too fat" and her face "too big". that she doesn't fit the strict kpop beauty standards.

i don't know why i get so grumpy when one of the kpop girl groups puts out a song i really like. i think it's because i get so mad about the narrow beauty standards in kpop & the "sexy baby" aesthetic (reflected in both the visuals and the singing style, which is very "little girly").
i also think about how these beautiful girls gotta starve and dance and be pretty at the same time. AND how girls keep flocking to be idols! i guess if you fit the profile & think you can do it, it's very lucrative if you succeed... IF.
anyway, new jeans is one of the next model of girl group (guaranteed to be younger, taller, thinner, cuter, and sexier than last year's model!). even the name of the group is upsetting...it's like "try on these new jeans!" it explicitly connects the product/consumerism side with the THESE ARE HUMAN BEINGS PERFORMING side. sigh.
anyway, bighit/hybe can afford the very best writers and producers, and i know their A&R people will happily work with writers & producers from around the world. so it's no surprise that the song is really good. i just get so sad for the girls... living their dream, but how good is the dream? :flan_piteous:

Although I've lived in the USA for many years, I'm a Brit who doesn't want to take US citizenship. I liked living in France but have to stay in America. I miss the NHS!
Soft left politics, still enraged about Brexit, worried that Starmer is being overcautious.

Atheist with an interest in religion.
I drink huge quantities of builder's tea, but treat myself to Darjeeling from time to time.
I also enjoy Campari, IPAs, and White Horse whisky.
Favourite food: quiche lorraine, Central Texas barbecue, smoked salmon. I miss roast lamb, Aero, and Bovril on toast.
