Like a scene from "Lord of the Rings", today we enjoyed the spectacular delights of the Garganta de Cares gorge in the Picos de Europa. We missed breakfast and set off in the dark to catch the morning sun entering the gorge. Turned into a very warm hike which later needed copious amounts of cold beer in compensation.

En la parte inferior de la foto tenemos las siluetas negras de unas casas: tejados, chimeneas, antenas de tv, alguna farola, algún árbol, etc.
El resto de la foto, que ocupa la mayor parte del cuadro, como unos dos tercios, es el cielo: un cielo limpio sin nubes. El color que envuelve el cielo es una degradacion de color que va desde el amarillento muy suave por la parte de abajo hasta el azul medio oscuro en la parte superior.
Es un foto simple, minimalista diría.
Ofrece un bonito contraste entre la luminosidad del cielo y el negro de las siluetas de las casas, y el límite entre ambos objetos es un corte abrupto.

Along the route, we chose checkpoints where we need a certain altitude to safely continue flying towards Villadossola. Additionally, we memorized a few emergency landing spots based on satellite imagery and other maps that were in glide range along the route.
All 5 of us reached the official landing zone between Domodossola and Villadossola with a big smile! After eating gelato, we took the train back to Switzerland.

And finally: A looong glide (plus two thermals) from the Weissmies peak (4017m) down to Domodossola (240m).
That flight took a bit of planning. The direct route over Passo di Pontimia would have been shorter, but the Valle di Bognanco looks pretty unlandable. So we took the slightly longer route via Passo d'Andolla and the Valle d'Antrona.
