Sprzętu nie można po prostu przywieźć do szkoły i rozdawać jak leci — potrzebny jest formalny ślad, kto za co odpowiada — więc parę tygodni temu dostaliśmy do wypełnienia ankietę z danymi do umowy, wypełniliśmy i… czekamy.
Laptopy opóźniają się. Miały być rozdawane na najbliższym zebraniu, już wiemy że nie będą. Wieść rodzicielska niesie, że to przez naklejki.
W doniesieniach medialnych były obrazki laptopów z grawerunkiem Orła Białego, w rzeczywistości każdy laptop ma naklejkę #KPO i informację o finansowaniu ze środków Unii Europejskiej.
Dlaczego, skoro te środki pozostają zablokowane? Bo są tam wpisane, a rząd nadal planuje uzyskać zwrot po ich odblokowaniu. Nie mógłby tego zrobić, gdyby laptopy nie miały oznaczeń #EU.

Fighting the weirdest issues with this Dell Inspiron 11 I'm trying to rescue.
Powers on, boots. After being used to power on the laptop, the power button doesn't work until ALL power sources are disconnected (incl BIOS battery!). Also, the USB/3.5mm on the daughter board don't work.
So, it's the daughter board! Except... the replacement does the same thing. I've also replaced the cable (I now have 3 cables and 2 DBs).

It took me a couple days of tinkering but I got Veracrypt working on my @PINE64 Pinebook Pro as I had to manually compile it in Manjaro Linux as there was no binary. I managed to get it working so now yup this can totally be a viable daily driver machine for my lightweight documents, social media, and multimedia viewing on the go.
I love this $200 little laptop so much

I just got my @PINE64 Pinebook Pro and I am super impressed! For about $200 this is AMAZING! I reinstalled Manjaro with XFCE to be lighter and used the Manjaro-ARM-Installer to reinstall it, and even encrypted the filesystem. Added a 500GB NVMe I had laying around so I could dump movies and stuff to it. Yesterday i recommended and later installed #fedora on a #laptop of a family member of mine. This was the first time i felt comfortable recommending #linux. He was so surprised about the speed and #libreoffice. He instantly liked the #gnome gestures. I think this will work for him.

I have several old laptops to get recycled. I'm looking for an easy way to make sure all the data is securely wiped first. Turns out this isn't quite as easy as I thought it'd be.
What I'm looking for in a tool:
-Can be run from USB
-Doesn't need logging in to the laptop
-Can handle **both** SSD and HDD
-Reputable vendor
-Not tied to one laptop manufacturer
It looks like Secure Erase by Parted Magic will do the trick - it's $13 for a 3-month license.
Can anyone confirm that's a good choice? Or got an alternative suggestion? Thanks!

My son’s brand-new school Windows laptop’s battery is not lasting as long as it needs to: he uses it for one 40-minute WebEx system, which uses up 50% of the battery, and then one independent study session and one in-class session, both of which are just web-based research and/or ebook reading, and typing in Word.
We’ve turned on every battery-saving option we can find, including turning off auto load/background refreshes, turning down the screen brightness and turning the video streaming off HD. This last made the WebEx session use 40% rather than 50%, but overall he’s just left on 5% now instead of completely dead. If he has a day needing more video, or if more classes require a laptop, it’s not adequate.
It was advertised as lasting 14 hours. I know that doesn’t translate to real-world use, but 2.5 hours seems extremely poor. Is the battery a dud, is this just what WebEx/modern apps do, or is there some other setting we can play with?
@stroughtonsmith I can say on my #Framework #Laptop running Manjaro (Arch derivative) with Firefox I'm not seeing that same issue.
As an A/B test, try Firefox and Chrome/Chromium, see if the issue is upstream from Edge or if Edge itself is just crap.
