Any #electronics people know what a safe refresh rate on an early 2000's monochrome #LCD would be? I'm working on some PDA related code and I remember reading in the Casio documentation that refreshing the LCD too quickly can decrease its lifespan, but I don't think there was a concrete number given for what "too quickly" meant.
I don't really care for 60 FPS, but it would be nice if 24 FPS animations could be safely displayed.

Reassembled the #Gameboy after finishing the cleaning. The display had a few missing vertical lines on the #LCD, but I could fix it with my soldering iron. See the attached images with the #Tetris title screen.

for the first time since changing to an #LCD #monitor 15+ years ago, I have a high refresh-rate (144Hz) monitor. It also happens to support G-Sync/Variable Refresh Rate.
I have the following thoughts on the features:
Every monitor should support refresh rates over 60Hz. It is so much nicer, that it feels quite jarring to look at my old, 60Hz monitor now.
Also, G-Sync/VRR should be standard, too. Playing games that dip down to 40fps feels perfectly fine and smooth in a way I haven't experienced since leaving CRT land.

I looked into how segmented LCDs are manufactured and it's a pretty simple process, and they also don't need much power to run. And since on a portable device it's usually the screen that breaks first, its repairability should be given a lot more consideration.
Of course a speaker is even simpler, so an audio-only device might be the best in this aspect.

When I went to replace my iMac 2017 with a Mac Studio, I decided to go with the intriguing LG DualUp display. It's a 28-inch 16:18 aspect ratio IPS display w/ 2560x2880 res @ ~140dpi. It has USB-C input and two HDMI inputs where you can display two 2560x1440 feeds stacked.
I use it rotated for 18:16 @ 2880x2560 native and I run it scaled at 2304x2048 -- feels just right. A monitor with this aspect ratio makes sense.
It is the most enjoyable monitor I have ever used. If gaming and whole-movie watching isn't your main use case (I use multiple shells, nice tall browsers, and write code on it), then it's worth a look. I've spoken about this over at the bird-place, but I think not here, as yet.
