Plans for two blocks of flats containing 65 homes have been scrapped by a Lewisham council after the builder bringing forward the properties went bust. A block of 34 temporary accommodation flats on Edward Street in Deptford and a block of 31 apartments on Winchfield Road near Home Park in Sydenham will no longer be built.

I am so lucky to have a job that is all about wonder. I'm inspired by city buildings, non-human inhabitants of the metropolis and of course by London's human beings. This house is in #Lewisham it brightens my day every time I pass. It was created by Mr Pink, a reggae musician who came to London in the #Windrush era.

Yesterday signage and cameras replaced the planters & bollards guarding the Silverdale/Bishopthorpes Road LTN. One change is that mororcycles are now also not permitted. But then Lewisham is having a bit of a war against motorcyclists at the moment.

A graphic from Newsshopper showing road deaths in Lewisham. The most obvious conclusion is it is pedestrians and cyclists who comprise the majority.
There is some indication that the 20mph limit introduced in March 2020 is having some effect in lowering these fatalities but we need to have a few more years to be sure.

Lewisham council has formally taken back 19,000 homes under its control following a transfer of staff and services from a housing company.
This week Lewisham council committed to take over responsibility for managing and maintaining homes across the borough, following the transfer from Lewisham Homes, which had been managing homes on behalf of the council.

John Paschoud, councillor for Perry Vale ward, accused Julia Webb of the Bell Green Neighbourhood Forum of attempting to attack him and having to be held back by council staff.
Ms Webb said the claims were untrue and lodged a complaint against him.
A council investigation dismissed the complaint, despite finding that there was ‘no evidence the Complainant [Ms Webb] had to be physically restrained’.

Fash demo this morning at #HonorOak pub Lewisham, the pub hosts a drag queen storytime. Organised by TurningPointUK - a pretend student organisation, their membership mainly being over 40 yo. Absolutely drowned out and outnumbered by counter-protesters.
Fake vicar Calvin Robinson was there and had "you're not a real vicar" sang at him to drown out his shite. Roy Brinkley showed up in his army hat to yell about 15 min cities and pothole conspiracies. Not welcome.
I got off the train at Grove Park Station and immediately saw signs for the #CapitalRing walk. There is also a wonderful Railway Children mural. The book’s author Edith Nesbit lived in the area, and the location is thought to be inspired by her walks to Grove Park nature reserve.

They didn't even get that much backlash, as the traffic is often already gridlocked every day and it was like that 25 years ago.
(when my parents lived there in the 1970s, they didn't have a car and it didn't stop me getting to childcare/playgroup, it was within walking distance)

protest was necessary but both sides fought their corners hard, and it meant the young immigrant families antifa genuinely hoped to help still felt unsafe as it was clear from the level of action the community was that divided.
My parents left Lewisham that year, moved to Reading (40km west) where they remained for the rest of their lives.
