Here's a #spreadsheet question: what #calculation-based "stuff" do you do with spreadsheets, *outside* the realm of grid-based tasks (eg a multiplication table) or texty lists (eg a todo list) or things producing graphs?

I'm interested in anything with a series of calculations that's /not/ a big grid!

Some of my ideas include calculating:
- salary/tax/take-home pay
- budgets
- expenses

... but I'm being very money-centric! What else can you suggest? #PleaseBoost! #LibreOffice #Excel #Sheets

Double-Clicking on Apple Docs in Ubuntu 23.10 Now iWorks

Ubuntu ships with LibreOffice because it’s a powerful open-source office suite compatible with document made in rival software, such as Microsoft Office and Apple’s iWork. Thing is, while LibreOffice can open files made in Apple’s Pages (a word processor, saves as .pages) and Numbers (a spreadsheet app, saves as .numbers) the shared-mime-info package in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS misattributes both formats as ZIP archives: So if a user double-clicks on either document in Ubuntu 22.04 the Archive Manager tool is launched, rather than LibreOffice. Thankfully, this bug was fixed upstream last year, and the fix included in the shared-mime-info 2.2 release, :sys_more_orange:

Mein Erfolgserlebnis heute:

https://numericoach.net/Calc-un-guide

OpenOffice).

Copied everything over from the doc to the sheet, and now words are so incredibly easy to add. It can even be turned into an Anki deck with a few clicks! I feel dumb for not doing this a whole lot earlier

Want to thank the #LibreOffice project for existing.
We take it for granted, but they're doing commendable work on ensuring that everyone can express themselves digitally (think benefits of FOSS) and collaborate with others (think standards like ODT, but also support of proprietary formats).

Funny... for me you start now with arbitrary numbers... 😉

What about using something like "Edition 2023, Version 7.6"?

And btw. i assume, it is possible to develop add-ons for #LibreOffice... how do they check a matching version? As something like "works with 7.x" (checking on major version 7 in the source code) would be no longer possible, right?

And are you sure, that end users will recognize 24.2 as February 2024? 😉

It was a trip creating this map as I didn’t use any off-the-shelf GIS tools like QGIS or R for this and just relied on my coding and graphic design skills.

I obtained the data for the WPFI¹ and HDI² scores via Wikipedia because it was quite easy to just copy the HTML tables and paste them into #LibreOffice Calc and then use my spreadsheet-fu to match the data and generate JSON.

Looking for a free or cheap drawing tool (for macOS or web-based) where you can add simple basic shapes to a canvas and connectors between them, text labels, etc. And output in reasonable formats like PNG and SVG. The connectors should follow when you move shapes, of course. Connectors should automatically be routed around objects and avoid crossing each others and overly convoluted routes as much as possible. #LibreOffice Draw is a bit like that but lacks the clever connector routing, I think.

@ClaireFromClare Lastly, there is a standard called PDF/UA (PDF Universal Access) specifically for PDFs.

Microsoft Office, Libre Office, and Adobe Acrobat Pro all have built-in accessibility checkers that identify and explain errors that cause problems in PDFs.

For formal testing, try the free PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker) [4] which tests against PDF/UA - but it won't tell you how to fix errors.
