Dry, everything was dry.
In a sea of white Cladonia Gray Reindeer lichens, a patch of dry brown other Cladonia lichens.
The next rain will make them appear green again for a short time.

I'd like to preserve some #lichen and bought a bottle of glycerine.
Does anyone know what ratio of glycerine to water I need to use?
I've seen different ratios, some even using alcohol and acetone instead of water. 🤨
Does the lichen have to be dry or fresh?

We saw the "transparent spittle" thing in several places. One hint is the #sphagnum #moss. After the trip I realized it might be a #SlimeMold.

A few days ago I found this particularly beautiful lichen for the first time, rare in our area.
This lichen belongs to a special group of difficult to identify Cladonia lichens. I think it's the Cladonia coccifera, formerly known under the common name Eastern Boreal Pixie Cup lichen.
Apparently, according to iNaturalist.org, this lichen has now been renamed "Madame's Cup Lichen". Why? 🤷‍♂️

Some lichens are more or less easy to identify.
This is a lichen I often put aside as there are many lookalikes.
Now that I've worked on it a bit more, I think it's a Stubby-stalked Cladonia (Cladonia caespiticia).

Part of a flat green lichen forming a dense carpet on the ground, found it at a rock face.
The lichen thallus consists of small green squamules (like leaves) 0.2-0.7 cm long and 0.1-0.3 cm wide.
The underside is white, a few tiny dark-brown pycnidia (fruiting bodies) grow on the upper side.
The lichen also has brown apothecia (fruiting bodies), on pale-colored stalks max. 5 mm high, resembling small mushrooms, growing directly on top of the squamules.
The background of the image consists of blurred green lichen and brown pine needles.

An old tree trunk in the forest with lichens growing on it.

Apparently it was cut decades ago, there is no bark left, but lichen grows from the middle of the cut and from the trunk. The wood is already falling apart.
