#LifeDrawing session log: My one-minutes were swell this week. The quarter-hour ones less so; they were surprisingly difficult poses given that one of them was just the model lying on the floor with a raised knee! Really awkward angle on the hips and shoulders though from where I was sitting.
The five minute poses this week were suggested to be built up from imagining and drawing a spiral around the various tubes of the body, as if wrapped loosely with a rope. I got some surprisingly good figures out of that.
I do need to create one of those websites that just says "YES" though, called "didkathymakethetorsotoolong.com" XD

while I was out having a beer, a couple walked in with bulldog. For whatever reason I started sketching the dog as quickly as I could. At the end if it the couple got of a drawing and I got £10.

#LifeDrawing log: we were in a different room of the indy theatre that hosts the sessions today; this one had natural light, at least until sunset, and I was probably closest to the model I've been yet.
It was another man this week (that's three out of four so far) but this guy was extremely toned, so I was paying a lot of attention to musculature when I had time between the faster poses.
Instructor's suggestion on the five min poses this week was lines of action. (He suggested three for each pose, specifically.) That caught me by surprise because I had assumed everyone did that for every pose, at least in their heads. It was nice to have a full five minutes for each one to consider the lines a little more before committing to them, before adding some basic shapes around them.
Overall though I felt I had a bad session. I didn't even finish my one-minute poses on a few occasions, which is unusual for me (even if they're scribbles) and it's the second time my art confidence has been knocked today. But practice on a bad day is still practice!

#LifeDrawing log: today's suggested specials were a five min negative shapes study, a five minute shadow shapes study, and then a ten minute study to combine the two. I felt a bit looser today and remembered my gesture lines which helped, even if the two final fifteen min studies didn't have very strong/obvious lines. Aced some of the warm up minute-long ones though!
Was also brave enough to talk to two artists chatting afterwards, though the conversation didn't go anywhere 😅

I personally think black women are some of the prettiest women in the whole world.💗 I'm enjoying rendering black skin, it's so vibrant and rich and it reflects the atmosphere in such a beautiful way. #NaArMaMo for 30 August.
Back at the #LifeDrawing class this week, and this time I tried to draw bigger, using both sides of the A2 paper.
The middle three poses were drawn in a style the instructor suggested, a series of lines imagined as the contours a drip of water would take down the form (or up it, in the second one). I hated this one! I could see one person in front of me making a recognisable figure and gesture with like five lines across the five minute period, whereas I drew something that looks like it should be in a horror film 😂
I think I was having a bad art day in general; I didn't remember until the final 15 minute pose (bottom right) to actually do the gesture first before going in with any kind of detail, even outline. Still, looking back at last week's I don't think I remembered to do that at all. So, progreeeeess?
I wouldn't usually post gesture drawing practice either but this is my art output today so it counts for the NaArMaMo challenge XD

I went to a #LifeDrawing class, for the first time in person! We got given A2 paper, a backing board for it, and a pencil with eraser.
There were about two dozen people drawing and one model who was well lit on a small stage.
We did 10 1-minute drawings first, then the instructor suggested a 5-minute negative-space-only pose followed by a 10-minute negative-space-and-shadow. We finished with two 20 minute studies.
And yes I'm counting this as today's piece of artwork, I haven't got any art left in me!

I am wondering: where do the life drawing people on here hang out? What are the right hashtags? I keep a bit of an eye on #lifeDrawing and #figureDrawing, but there does not seem to be that much happening on them. What am I missing? Surely there are more than like 5 people doing figure drawing per week? WHERE IS EVERYBODY?
Went to #lifedrawing today for the first time in over a month, and the model unfortunately had to cancel - we were able to find a substitute, & only got to draw for 90 minutes instead of 3 hours, but the substitute turned out to be a fabulous model so it was worth it!!!🎉 #MastoArt #TraditionalArt
