LED lights are driving me nuts. I posted earlier this year about needing to replace nearly a dozen A19 10W bulbs within about two years of normal use.
Today I replaced another four bulbs along with four recessed fixtures. These things clearly burn themselves out well before they should.
That's about 20 lamps turned to e-waste in under three years.
Guess which pictured fixture is the new one... 🫠
Another couple of lighting studies I did a couple of days ago. Doggo with a reference, then I drew Oddjob without.
Not having the brightest light on the visible side of the character is very strange to work out in my brain but I do like how it looks.

When it comes to learning #lighting in any #3d software (game engines for that matter; #cinematography and #photography too), this exercise is so useful imho. A simple sphere, a ground, and just moving the light(s) around, changing their size and noticing how the character of lighting changes.
This weekend I attended a great class on Outdoor Lighting taught by Kate Hailey at Glazer's Camera. It’s a topic where I know the basics, but getting hands-on time with a modern gear shooting a professional model makes such a difference. Over 2 hours we made 3 setups, including the kind of bright sunlight that photographers warn you not to use, which was a good opportunity to shoot high-speed sync. Highly recommended!

Broke out the custom LED strips to get some lighting on the consoles. Was a bit of a pain in the ass, but I think it turned out pretty well overall. Even have a remote on it so I can control brightness and turn it off/on. #lighting

Project done! 🥳 Here are some photos of how it turned out and others of how the switch is assembled. The switch is what I like least about the design because it always ends up at strange angles when it is resting on the table; for the photo, I cheated and stuck it with adhesive tape to the table 😛. For version 2.0, I was thinking of putting the switch directly on the base or the wood surrounding the heatsink 🤔.

LED lights are created by taking a blue LED chip and putting it in a wrapper that confers an additional dose of yellow phosphor -- together, the eye sees that combo as "white"
