LINE has shut down its VOOM social posts/stories feature everywhere except their major markets of Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia.
Even though I'm in Taiwan, because my account was originally set up in Australia this means the feature is gone for me, which is nice because I never used VOOM and it seemed to be filled with the usual rubbish that people and companies post to other similar services.

Alito will not recuse in case involving lawyer who interviewed him
#Justice Samuel A. #Alito Jr. on Friday dismissed calls from Democratic senators that he #recuse himself from an upcoming Supreme Court tax case because one of the attorneys in the matter interviewed the justice twice for articles that appeared on the Wall Street Journal editorial page.
When Washington lawyer David B. Rivkin Jr. co-authored the articles, “he did so as a journalist, not an advocate,” Alito wrote in a statement attached to a routine orders list issued by the court Friday.
Senate Judiciary Committee Richard J. #Durbin and other Democrats on the committee wrote to Chief Justice John G. #Roberts Jr. last month saying that Alito had crossed an #ethical #line in giving two interviews to Rivkin and Journal editorial page features editor James Taranto while Rivkin at the same time is representing a couple seeking Supreme Court review of a tax case.
The court said in June that it would hear the case in the term that begins in October.
One of the interviews occurred after that.
Justices do not routinely sit for newspaper interviews. But Alito has made the Wall Street Journal editorial page his preferred venue for public communication: disputing a #ProPublica piece about an Alaskan fishing trip he took paid for by a wealthy benefactor and then defending the court in the interviews with Taranto and Rivkin, an attorney prominent in conservative legal circles.
In the most recent article, Alito said he expected the organized legal community to defend him and other justices. “But that’s just not happening. And so at a certain point I’ve said to myself, nobody else is going to do this, so I have to defend myself.”

2023-08-31 昔、パソコンでだけ使うために設定していた #LINE のアカウントを、スマートフォンでも使えるように設定したのだが、難儀であった。インストールしたアプリで「ログイン」を選び、「QRコードでログイン」に進んでパソコンのLINE画面に表示されるQRコードを入力してもダメ（ここでは旧スマホで表示させた「かんたん引き継ぎQRコード」を入れないとダメらしい）、しばらく悩んで、「電話番号でログイン」に進み、手にしている新しいスマホの電話番号を入力、SMSでとどいた番号を入力、この次に「アカウントを引き継ぐ」というメニューが出たので、選んでメールアドレスでログイン、LINEに届く「引き継ぎ認証番号」をパソコン画面で確認して入力したら、使えるようになった。要は、旧スマホが紛失や故障した場合と仮定して設定すればできるということらしい。パソコン版の方は強制的にログアウトされた。再ログインすると本人確認が必要と出たので、クリックすると、スマホに番号が表示され、その番号をパソコンで入力したら確認完了。よくできているというのか、じわじわと縛り付けられていく感じ。

@jonnadul@infosec.exchange I’m not hopeful about #Apple opening up #iMessage in any meaningful way. Vendor lock-in is one major strategy to sell their devices & related services.
In the #US, they have a stranglehold of the messaging market like #Blackberry did with #BBM. Outside of the US, Apple doesn’t have this “upper hand”, also why the whole green vs. blue bubble thing is very much a US problem. Other players like #WhatsApp, #WeChat, #Viber, #LINE, #KakaoTalk and more are the biggest players in different markets and all of them are multiplatform #messaging apps.
I’d be surprised if Apple intends to make their cash cow of an app interoperable, making it easier for people to leave their #ecosystem.

@davidpine I also installed Visual Studio just to test and it also didn't work there. Tried with both an actual source generator setup and just by adding a file manually.
The compiler recognizes the `#line` directive, which is evident in the build errors I get, both when I build from the CLI or inside an IDE. However, there is no error highlighting in the actual IDE code editor.
@davidpine @davidpine Yes, it works for generating the output files, but this is not the main challenge. The issue is that I want to maintain static analysis in the original files.
I came the closest to achieving this by excluding the original files from compilation and using `#line` directives to remap lines from the generate files to the original files. That works well in CLI using `dotnet build`, and even semi-ok in VS Code, but doesn't seem to be respected at all in Rider.

Here is a doodle I made about two weeks ago- the Zooted Stripey Coral Sunrise Rubyron Doodle. It has wiped and striped tubes that I learned from David Svenson at Pilchuck Glass School.
It puts off a really nice warm pinky orangey golden glow that was nice enough to leave on and forget about. At 11x13x15 inches and bold 15-20mm lines it's an electric zesty zinger!

Chicago! I am part of a group show at Ken Saunders Gallery. The title says it all. Openings on September 9th from 5-8pm and September 10th from 1-3pm. You can see two fancy 3D neon doodles and the first Wild One sculpture I have made post pandemic. All new work!

@hhardy01 In Japan, people seem to use LINE more than anything. Most people just want something more convenient that e-mail for messaging, and a quick way to keep small groups informed about schedules? A young person showed that LINE does public timelines. Older people seem to use #facebook for public stuff, but all the group stuff goes through LINE. I miss out on a lot by avoiding #LINE.. Big stores in Japan too, They all have LINE accounts. In Asia Line might be bigger than #FB or #Twitter?
