🟪🟩 Silicon Graphics - SGI once reigned supreme in the realm of the most powerful graphics workstations and servers.
💸 In the museum, we preserve many of these systems, which when new could cost more than $10,000 and even $100,000, along with some of their high-end monitors and peripherals:
2x Iris Indigo
1x Personal Iris
3x 19" + 1x 17" CRT

The architecture of the building housing the museum is top-notch, but over the years, a few pieces of the exterior have been missing - that doesn't stop us, as we use a 3D printer 💪
🌎📚 In the museum, with the help of dedicated volunteers, we also maintain an extensive collection of computer literature. In 1994, the internet was still so small that its directory could be printed in a book 😅 Today, the number of websites approaches 2 billion, and 60% of the world's population already has access to them.
🧮🔢 The Croatian Digitron db 803 from 1974 is one of the first Yugoslavian calculators. We charge it in its case, where it can be used even if the batteries are empty.
✒️✍️ The HP 7225A is a simple plotter from 1978. Many of us have never seen this predecessor of modern printers in action - we're excited to be able to demonstrate it to you 🙂 In the collection, we also have the Sharp MZ-1P16 and Calcomp 5324.
💿📀 The Hitachi CDR-1502S is one of the first CD-ROM drives, a whopping 35 years old! It connects to the computer through a special ISA card. For comparison, next to it is a slim DVD-RW drive from a laptop that is 10 years old.
When starting machine translation, we assumed ASCII encoding, but discovered a different system. Seeking help on social media, our followers cracked the code in under 24 hours, revealing the use of an IBM Supertyper 8500 punch and BCDIC. 🕵️♂️🔍 Thanks to them, we found the decoding table in the IBM 1620 computer manual. 🙌🔠

🇩🇪🖥️ The Robotron A 5120 is an office computer from East Germany. A clone of the CP/M operating system (SCP) runs on a Z80 clone processor (U880) with 16-64 KB of memory, and the storage medium was initially 8'' floppy disks, later also 5.25'' as in our specimen. According to the museum inventory system, it is recorded as being in working condition😃
😎 You vs. the guy she told you not to worry about 😅
💪 In the museum, we curate a collection of all types of data storage devices - from microSD cards weighing 250 mg to the IBM 3370 hard disk with 7 platters, a diameter of 36 cm, and a capacity of 571 MB, weighing quite a few kilograms.
💬 What interesting data media do you store? Do you still have working equipment to read them?
📷🖼️ The Kodak Photo CD Writer 225 from 1995 enables the recording of up to 100 high-quality photos on special writeable CDs. The images are compressed in a special Kodak format since, at the time of writing the specifications, the more efficient JPEG format did not yet exist and would have been computationally demanding.
📦🖥️ Commodore also ventured into the PC-compatible computer market - first with the release of the PC 10 model in 1987, featuring an 8088 processor.
📺👁️ CRT or cathode-ray tube monitors: big, heavy, flickering, filled with lead and cadmium, with a pinch of X-rays, but infinitely nostalgic🙂
🏃 In the museum, we have a lovely collection of all sizes and types, from black and white with green phosphor to the finest Sony Trinitron. We use them for retro gaming, and we're even considering organizing a CRT run from the basement to the 1st floor.
📼✏️ Those who used home computers in the last millennium know that tapes weren't just for music. Data on these nostalgic media was recorded in a manner similar to how communication occurred between modems over analog telephone lines.
🧮🔢 In the museum, we also have a nice collection of calculating machines and calculators. Can you imagine having to carry around a Facit C1-13, weighing 6.75 kg, for simple mathematical calculations? 😃
🦖🌪️ Silicon Graphics graphic workstations were once synonymous with high performance - they even appeared in movies like Jurassic Park, Twister, and Congo. In the museum, we have a lot of interesting peripherals for them, including several SGI IndyCam cameras.
🧠📺 The Minitel 1 terminal, which served as the internet for millions of French people before the actual internet, lives on! Behind the cover, it hides serial ports that can be connected to a circuit based on an ESP32 controller, allowing the execution of custom programs and connection to SSH servers.
🇯🇵⌨️ Sharp also joined the battle for the best home computer - a generous donor gifted us a excellently preserved unit, the MZ-731, still in its original packaging 😍
✒️📼 Powered by a Z80-compatible processor addressing 64 KB RAM, it also features a built-in mini-plotter and cassette deck.
🗒️ ThinkPad (pictured is the 340CSE model) is a series of legendary laptops that IBM initiated in 1992, passing through the hands of LG and Acer before ending up under the Lenovo brand. Over 100 million units have been sold.
Slovak virus OneHalf continues to wreak havoc even in this millennium 🦠👾 So resilient that only Slovak tools 💪 (by the same authors as ESET NOD32) can remove it.
At the exhibition 'What about Software?' we also explore unwanted software 🦠 When was the last time you got malware on your device, and how severe was it? 😡
🤝🙂 In its final efforts, Commodore tried to compete with the rise of PCs with the Amiga 1200 and 4000. The AGA chipset architecture, the third in line, brought some graphic advancements and faster processors. However, it all proved to be too little and too late to halt the company's decline.
💾💸 With the Commodore 1541 disk drive, games and programs can be loaded onto the Commodore 64 from 5.25'' disks instead of the more common audio cassettes. Because it's a fairly complex device - almost a computer in itself - it's not surprising that it would cost around €1000 today.
🍌🦍 Playing GORILLA.BAS on the Toshiba T5100 laptop 🤩 That orange plasma screen ❤
You can also play it - in your browser - if you attempt to format the "disk" at https://zbirka.muzej.si/ 😂 (in QBasic, press F5 to start the game)
💪🐘 Last year, our museum had to deal with the challenge of accommodating our heaviest and largest exhibit - the IBM zSeries mainframe. It took us some time to figure out how to get it into the building 😅.
👁️☎️ The iPhone 2, or 3G as Apple officially named it, was introduced in June 2008. It features similar hardware to the original iPhone but adds the now-standard GPS and 3G network support. Simultaneously, iOS 2.0 was launched, which introduced the first App Store. When did you first encounter it?
💚🤖 The HTC Dream (also known as the T-Mobile G1) is the first smartphone with the Android operating system from the year 2008. Like most Android phones, it is powered by an ARM processor (528 MHz), has 192 MB of RAM, and offers 256 MB of file storage space.
📱🎮 Nokia N-Gage from 2003 was an unsuccessful attempt to dethrone Nintendo's Game Boy Advance. While the idea of combining a mobile phone and a gaming console into one device made sense, the N-Gage didn't offer suitable gaming controls, had a screen orientation that wasn't ideal for gaming, and changing game cartridges required removing the battery each time.
Anyone opposed to further pedestrianisation of Cork should look at Ljubljana 🇸🇮
So far 10 hectares of the city centre is car free with local approval ratings ranging from 88% - 95%.
The air is cleaner, the streets are greener and business is booming. It is also a joy to visit!
✏️📺 In our museum collection, we have a unique gaming console called the Vectrex, which comes with its own built-in TV screen. Its distinctive feature, as evident from its name, is vector graphics (made up of lines) instead of raster graphics (like pixels on the screen) - giving its games a unique look and very smooth animations.

⚾🧱 Arkanoid for DOS was developed by the Japanese company Taito in 1988. It successfully continued the brick-breaking genre that Atari had pioneered with the arcade game Breakout in 1976. Arkanoid was a hit, with versions available for nearly 20 different systems in addition to DOS. What's your favorite "breakout"?

💡🖨️ For terminal access, you don't even need a monitor. Ancestor of this dot matrix printer with a keyboard, the DECwriter III, had its roots in teleprinters, which evolved from telegraphy. This model dates back to 1977 and supports only the more modern RS-232 standard with a maximum speed of 9600 bit/s.

💼💻 Many people would have loved to own an HP 200LX in 1994. It's powered by a 186 processor running MS-DOS 5.0, with 2 MB of available RAM, and offers plenty of I/O ports and expansion possibilities.
🇫🇷🕸️ Impeccably preserved Minitel 1 terminal, the device that allowed people in France to 'surf the web' since 1982, even before it was officially invented. It's a kind of two-way Teletext - users could not only receive data (at 1200 bit/s) using the built-in modem but also send it - albeit at a modest 75 bit/s. France Télécom only shut down the service in 2012, while Teletext continues to thrive in Slovenia! 😎
🦕🖥️ The Lear Siegler ADM-3A terminal (1976) looks like it's straight out of The Flintstones 😃 We received it 12 years ago from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and it dates back to the times before the influential VT100 terminal.

🐧💿 The internet has already forgotten them (read: .iso files are nowhere to be found), so it's time for us to revive them: Pingo Linux 4.0, Slo-Tech Linux 2.0, and FeriX 2.1... 3 successful Slovenian Linux distributions. Attention: We are still searching for Pingo 4.1 ⚠, slix, Slobuntu, and Slonix!
🟥⬛ Within our collection, we proudly house three rare household computers, the Oric Nova 64, specifically adapted for the Yugoslavian market from the Oric Atmos (Tangerine Computer Systems, 1984). One of these units is particularly fascinating due to its inclusion of engraved Yugoslav (YU) characters. 😍
The Iskra Delta “Triglav” computer serves as a testament to Slovenia's remarkable contributions to the world of computing. Triglav, which translates to "Trident" in English, stands as a noteworthy addition to the esteemed Iskra Delta series that emerged in the 1980s.
