Anyone can now #selfhost #Loomio with @cloudron #cloudron #selfhosting

The initial app package for #loomio is ready for testing https://www.cloudron.io/store/org.loomio.cloudronapp.html

- potrzeba akceptacji
- potrzeba uznania, docenienia
- potrzeba stymulacji, pobudzenia
- potrzeba wspólnoty, więzi
- potrzeba uwagi, bycia zauważanym
- potrzeba współpracy
- potrzeba partnerstwa
- potrzeba szczerości
- potrzeba opieki
- potrzeba zabawy, humoru
- potrzeba inspiracji
- potrzeba ...

#Facebook #bezFecebooka - #Hometown #Glitchsoc #Calckey #Misskey #Friendica #Bonfire #Hubzilla #Soapbox #Loomio #Mobilizon #GroupsIO #Framalistes #FramaSoft

@DavidBlue @fediversereport Social.Coop uses #Loomio, but the same functionality would be helpful... I submitted a feature request to their GitHub! https://github.com/loomio/loomio/issues/9527

Laughing at myself. I had been hearing about this collaboration software and had unsuccessfully looked for it a few times. I just realized I had been googling "lumio" instead of "loomio" #loomio

It turns out I already had an account on #Loomio.com since 2017 due to #ECA and I had completely forgotten.

Tomorrow there's #DecentSocial so here I come.

Loomio isn't federated (yet). I spent some time arguing for this a few years ago, but it wasn't a priority for the co-op who develop the software. But it's AGPL, so if someone else thought about the UX and wrote a good patch, they might be willing to merge it. Especially now that Mastodon is getting mainstream attention.

Does anyone use mastodon as an #SSO provider? Ideally we would like to allow members of our instance to use their masto account to log in to a #MediaWiki and #Loomio instance rather than having three accounts, but I have never tried doing SSO before and can't really find any examples. help plz? boost welcome

I know that #Loomio has its various issues, but I've always felt that building consensus on project decisions, rather than just directing people to a forum that goes ignored, is a way better situation.

It turns people who have concerns into stakeholders, who are invited to share their perspectives on issues that affect them and everybody else.

I don't think every problem or decision can be solved this way, but I think having a dedicated process and tooling goes a long way towards making the situation better, rather than worse.

Social.Coop folks, it is definitely worth the time to check out Loomio's user manual and guides. From the many types of polls (which are now editable, so very customizable) and the difference between threads - for discussion - and polls - for decision making (and vibe checks) to integrative consent and facilitation techniques.

Pytania do społeczności:

Czy ktoś postawił "polską" instancję #loomio, z której korzystać mogłyby ekipy moderacyjne "polskich" instancji #fediverse/#mastodon/#glitch-soc, by podejmować decyzje bardziej "demokratycznie"?

Macie wiedzę?

A może jakaś osoba dysponująca chęciami, czasem i infrastrukturą postawiłaby?

A może macie jakieś inne pomysły niż wykorzystanie loomio?

Dzięki za podbicie/boost :)

Ah yes, like quite a few FOSS web-based packages (e.g. #gitlab), you need to distinguish the software itself from the servers run by the group that does the main development of the software.

#Loomio do actually appear to be quite open about this - "Loomio Limited is a for-profit social enterprise owned by worker-owned Loomio Cooperative" [1] - but you need to search to find what "open source" means, by going to Microsoft to get the software.

@chaotique @nemobis

*All three* are #FOSS and in particular, they are #AGPLv3 :

#ConsulProject https://github.com/consul/consul/blob/master/LICENSE-AGPLv3.txt

#Decidim https://github.com/decidim/decidim/blob/develop/LICENSE-AGPLv3.txt

#Loomio https://github.com/loomio/loomio/blob/master/LICENSE.txt

My impression is that Loomio instances/communities don't seem to be durable, but that's just an impression.

For Decidim versus Consul, there is an excellent in-depth comparison (human vs tech criteria) here:

en: https://decidim.org/blog/2019-01-14-consul-comparison

es: https://xabier.barandiaran.net/2019/01/14/comparativa-decidim-vs-consul

I'm actually *not* a huge fan of #loomio for small groups; but I can see how it is useful for bigger ones.

@nemobis

Something like #Loomio or #Decidim or Consul ( #ConsulProject ) would presumably be good for such a 'safe space' for admins/moderators. Discussion alone won't be enough: decisions (specific and general) will be needed.

@zumbrunn i remember that you told me long time ago that i should dedicate more attention to @SocialCoop and do a research what are you doing here and since few days, I am very excited about doing that and by joining to #mastodon it reminded me to your introduction to #presearch ... i hope that more people will start using https://presearch.io/

I remember that you showed me #loomio as well. 😉

Thank you, for all the inspiration and support you are giving to me! 🙏🏽

Actually, why would you want to do this?
Anyway, if Loomio can implement Slack and Microsoft integration (and RSS, which I didn't know was there), I am sure Mastodon integration in Loomio is feasible. But yeah, why should they do that on top of serving up RSS already.
Maybe you just need a multi-protocol client like ... I don't know.

@datatitian I'm addicted to playing with self hosted #opensource projects and have checked out (but not installed) #loomio previously.

Been following the platform since... Probably 2015

It would be cool if #loomio automatically listed various time zones for events.

Thought of this because of an email I got from Miguel Hirota:

#REDPES (Portuguese Solidarity Economy Network) webinar in English on Tue, Feb 23rd on local currencies and rural development.

Time: 9pm Turkey, Moscow = 8pm Greece = 7pm Berlin, Paris = 6pm London, Lisbon = 1pm New York = 12pm Chicago = 11am Denver = 10am Los Angeles.

Le but paraît bien spécifique :

« ... ayant pour mission d'élaborer une proposition de réforme de la participation citoyenne afin d'associer systématiquement les citoyens à la construction des politiques publiques, des réformes et des lois ... »

Mais laquelle « plateforme numérique » ?

Organisé de façon transparente et structurée sur git/ wiki/ #Loomio / #Decidim / #ConsulProject [1], la puissance politique du projet pourrait être réelle.

Some services publish full server software as free code, but are SaaSS in more subtle ways. Eg using a data silo to lock in users instead of proprietary code, refusing to allow self/ community-hosted instances to federate and interact with the flagship instance. Signal and Loomio are currently examples of this.

If you need a discussion forum, Discourse is significantly more responsive than Loomio on both desktop and mobile. I no longer recommend users set up groups on Loomio.org unless you're sure your group will use the dedicated proposal and polling tools (the one thing Loomio does well), all your members have late model devices and your group can afford a paid plan:

I'm looking for some programmers and #devOps types willing to work on a fork of #Loomio, aimed at orgs who might want to self-host a single Loomio group with subgroups, without the overhead of the full multi-group stack. It would need support for #SSO (using open standards like #LDAP etc), so orgs can integrate their Loomio group with other self-hosted tools. Bonus points for achieving #federation between instances. The existing Loomio stack is #RubyOnRails and #Vue:

I just forked a thread on #Loomio for the first time. I proposed the feature back when the app was still in beta, so it's great to see it implemented by the Loomio team. The #UX is a little bit non-intuitive though.

#ShowerThoughts proposal for an alternate approach to thread creation in #Loomio.

All new threads are first created in a private group used only by the user starting the thread. The thread can then be offered to other Loomio groups;
privately - accessible only to members of those groups; cross-group private discussions
or
publicly - accessible by any user account; ie platform level public discussions.

#Hylo has been acquired by #Holo, and will be ported to run on their #Holochain network, a kind of distributed "cloud" hosting framework. The #Loomio co-op have said they will no longer offer gratis use of their flagship instance, so Hylo could be an alternative for unfunded groups that can't afford to pay for hosting.

Okay! We completed two steps in the integrative consent process. Step three is to amend the proposal (which I just did). Step Four is "Integration" where we solicit objections so we can make necessary changes.

Remember, we are still in the process of deciding whether or not to use Integrative Consent in our online decision-making.

I was too busy live-posting here or scratching down notes to notice, but my wife was fascinated to watch the way #Slido was being used at #Netizen21. A lot of the audience were using it during the talks to share their thoughts about what the speakers were talking about, and upvoting each others' comments. This is similar to the way I imagined #Loomio being used at #OpenSourceOpenSociety back in 2015. Except that Loomio would make it easier to keep those conversations going after the event.
