A nagging cough can hang on for weeks or months following a respiratory illness – and there is precious little you can do about it.

But while a relentless cough after a viral infection can be frustrating and worrisome, but in most cases, coughs resolve over time.

Lung cancer rates have risen among nonsmokers and young women — why?

The American Lung Association reports that while lung cancer rates have risen by 79% for women over the last 44 years, they decreased by 43% for men. And for the first time in history, there are more young women than men diagnosed with lung cancer.

First principle for scientific papers: readability and explorability of data must have priority over aesthetic preferences. Graphic design should support the readability and clarity of the data rather than dominate it. #dataviz must aid the communication of unique, potentially complex findings among experts.

ARE GAS STOVES BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH?

Why the government is considering new safety regulations.

"One of the main air pollutants commonly associated with using gas stoves is nitrogen dioxide. Nitrogen dioxide exposures in homes have been associated with more severe asthma and increased use of rescue inhalers in children. This gas can also affect asthmatic adults, and it contributes to both the development and exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease." https://bit.ly/3QworUy #lung

My new editorial about #airway #remodeling in #asthma is finally out. A surprising and fascinating aspect of #ComplexSystems behavior is that multiple mechanisms can be involved in shifting a #TippingPoint. In asthma, there are several distinct mechanisms of airway remodeling, but they converge in a combined effect of shifting the tipping point for severe asthma attacks: https://doi.org/jq7c https://atm.amegroups.com/article/view/104046/html

Header section of the editorial
Airway narrowing during a simulated asthma attack in a computational model of bronchoconstriction in an airway tree. Initially, airway behavior is homogeneous until the critical point in bronchoconstriction is reached. Beyond that point, positive feedback leads to the emergence of separated clusters of airways–—also referred to as phase separation—resulting in regions with ventilation defects (VDefs).
