This fluffy tail belongs to "Het Grote Boek van De Poezenkrant - The Big Book of the Cat Newspaper". The tail is a bookmark
De Poezenkrant was a #Dutch #magazine with articles and #illustrations of domestic cats, but it was actually more of a typographical playground for its designer, Piet Schreuders.
This book compiles issues from 1974–2004. After 50 years, the magazine recently announced its end.

I have no idea what's going on here. The astounding thing is that a big strong bruiser of a man is a gentle soul who fills Christmas stockings? I am mildly astounded that one of his tattoos appears to be the Tesla logo I guess…

So I feel like there’s a dilemma in supporting old, established publications. My nephew (7) would like a subscription to National Geographic Kids. Seems like a reasonable thing. But with #NatGeo laying off most of its writers and switching to free lancers, I see this as 2 likely outcomes.
1. I don’t subscribe, and the magazine first goes to an all AI model and then finally closes when that doesn’t work.
2. I do subscribe, but they fire the humans and go the all #AI way anyways, and I’m paying for my nephew to read ChatGPT-generated crap.
Am I overly pessimistic? Is there something I’m missing?

Amazing Stories vol. 21, no. 10 (October 1947)
I absolutely love this one, the monster is great and the sense of motion is powerful.
She seems to have someone out of frame to whom she's calling for help, right?

We've been lurking for awhile. Time for a proper introduction. We are a speculative fiction magazine with a focus on telling alien stories. The more alien to a human perspective the better. Sci-fi, fantasy, horror, surrealism, lovecraaftian cosmic horror: bring it all.
We release two issues per year--on each equinox--via our website.
We will post here about issue releases, stories, and open submission periods (January and July generally).

If I subscribed to every website that wants me to pay in order to support "high quality independent #journalism", I would be spending hundreds each month on subscriptions, which, I'm clearly not going to do.
I understand they want to make money, but can't we have "pay per view", "pay as you go", or "buy a single issue"?
Like in the good old days, I would buy a single issue of a #newspaper or #magazine if I was interested.
I'm fine paying, just don't want to be locked in into a #subscription.
Worlds of IF (May 1963)
Love the little person with the big caterpillar, or regular person with the huge caterpillar, it's hard to tell scale. The space men seem surprised to see them, considering they had a view of this planet from the air. Perhaps the huge, or possibly normal sized grass was in the way.

Made this cover illustration in 2014 for a Dutch magazine. Sadly, it is more relevant now than it was back then. 😢

A quick reminder I'll be at the Retro Computer Festival at the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge this coming weekend (4th+5th Nov).
I started computing as a kid with a ZX Spectrum in May'83 and have now been a retro #GameDev for 30 years, producing #Retrogames, #Hardware, #Software, #Magazine for the #SAMCoupe computer, plus the odd piece of hardware for #ZXSpectrum and #RC2014 too!

Bonkers. Love it. The fly's feet are slightly distracting though.

some nice mail in the post today…
Evolve magazine looks like a beautiful publication. Mike Kauschke interviewed me before the Summer - a long warm conversation, full of insight. sadly my German is extremely poor, so must spend some time translating later.
happy to see some great people in the pages of the Autumn issue - artist Sougwen Chung, Nora Bateson, ActionStation Aotearoa. good people!
