#Thermal image of some lawn that I am #solarizing. The temps are looking good I think. I just started yesterday and I did not mow the lawn as low as possible first. We'll see how this goes.

The plan is to sow #native grass and flower seeds near the end of the fall to turn this space into a mini #meadow. The area on the left will eventually be included too, but I hear its wise not to try to do too large of an area at once.

It's a beautiful start to the day at #ForkedMeadow #California. We're enering the tail end of summer in the #SierraNevada and fall is not far away. In spite of that, the high yesterday was 82f and the overnight low was 47f. It's currently 53f.

My guess is we'll get our first real frost in about three weeks.

Dawn at #ForkedMeadow #California. There's a lot of dew out on the #meadow and it feels a tiny bit crisp at 44f. Last night's low was 41f and the high yesterday was 77f. The weather shows another two weeks of clear skies.

This fall we'll be doing understory burning as part of a burn cooperative training. At least we will if the weather cooperates.

Another gorgeous morning at #ForkedMeadow #California. Last night it went down to 40f after a high yesterday of 69f. Currently it's 44f.

There is a lot of dew in the meadow this morning that is starting to rise up as little whisps of steam where the sun hits the ground through the trees. In another half hour, all that morning wetness will evaporate and it will be another pleasently dry day under a bright blue #Sierra sumertime sky.

Today was a bit cooler at #ForkedMeadow #California. It got up to 69f which is the coolest it's been in about a month. Last night the low was 41f which is also the coolest it's been in about a month. It's currently 67f. This is a very pleasant day today.

It looks like over the weekend things will heat back up again. The 10 day outlook is more of the same -- clear skies and pleasant weather.

Our #meadow is dense, omg. We let an area in our yard grow #wild and well, it really did this year. I've just cleared ~2 square metres just now, the green bin is full, and I am soaked in sweat.

A cleared patch of ground (still grassy but brown) is in the foreground, in front of a Japanese maple tree. Stretching into the background is the rest of the meadow full of wildflowers (lots of birds foot trefoil), a strip about 1.5m wide running along a fence. One of the two apple trees that are also in this area is seen in the background.

The "before" picture. The maple and other trees are half hidden by the wilderness. In the foreground is a lot of what I think is very tall alfalfa.

Even in the heat of summer, mornings can be cool, and the sunlight we grumble about in late afternoon is welcoming at dawn. Its golden glow across our skin is enchanting, as is the way it gently lights the flowers in the field around us. We close our eyes to fully live in the moment.

One of the areas of grass, which has not been cut once yet this year, has turned into a #meadow of Lesser or Common #knapweed (Centaurea nigra) and #Yarrow. Both plants are among the top nectar producers, loved by insects and also birds.
