Spotted this interesting new mural by Minna Leunig on the side of the Pullman hotel on Little Bourke Street today. I like the swirly animal motif.

Just look at these awesome #Rhododendron… pink as anything and oh so delicate, elegant in appearance.

I’ve seen many in white, too!

Most species are native to eastern Asia and the Himalayan region, but smaller numbers occur elsewhere in Asia, and in North America, Europe and Australia.

Fun fact; there exists, 1,024 different species of Rhododendron 😳🙌

Woo for a long weekend! I've been for a swim this morning. which was exactly what I needed. Stretched out every muscle and a good solid workout. And nothing beats floating afterwards.

Look at this glorious weather! Time to hang out the load of washing I put on before I went to the pool.

A pleasant and comfortable ride into #Melbourne CBD this morning. Not much car traffic around, and it felt like the city was almost in holiday mode. Not that many people riding their bicycles, but there were some recreationally riding along the river.

Dan Andrews' resignation feels like a refreshing break from the pandemic era. I'm hoping the idiotic cookers who still disrupt public transport on Saturdays in the CBD will take the cue and give up as well. Also the occasional earth tremors, they can piss off too.

Just used the middle subway at Richmond Station and it was a journey into the past. I don't think those tiles have changed since the station was rebuilt for the 1956 Olympics. My Nanna used to have ceramic vases in that colour. #Melbourne

Noticed that these tram network maps in refurbished B-class trams are slightly different to the official version.

They seem to be 'stripped back' with all labels and key destinations removed, other than railway stations, water bodies and tram-related features

Do you live in or visit the City of Glen Eira? They are asking for feedback on their Transport Strategy. In their last Transport Strategy, the single project to encourage cycling was a pilot project of a protected bike lane on Inkerman Rd. They didn't build it. Come on Glen Eira, you can do better!

We should be doing this in Melbourne.
Default speed limit in Melbourne should be 30km/hr unless otherwise signed. The effect on journey times will be unnoticeable.
Ask your car what your average speed is. It's already going to be around 30km/hr unless you regularly travel long distances on rural roads.

Just discovered @NessaUndreza - what a lovely concept for a social media account, highlighting everyday life in #Australia. Immediate follow. I love #Melbourne - it's one of my favourite cities, better than Sydney IMHO (sorry, Sydneysiders) though #Adelaide will always be the city of my heart.
Perhaps I should do the same, because I live in my head thinking about abstract serious things far too much ;) #Geopolitics I'm looking at you!

One of the two portals along the West Gate Freeway. I love the wonkiness of these arches and how, in this photo, the perspective makes it look like it's reaching out to the hotel building that's actually much further back in the photo.

#melbourne #naarm #UrbanDesign #photography #BlackAndWhite #fujifilm

More on these portal archways here, btw: https://electrolight.com/project/westgate-freeway-portals/

Black and white photo taken from ground level of a large concrete archway structure constructed around an elevated roadway. This otherwise-rectangular archway structure has been built with a slight rotation, so it looks like it is twisting anticlockwise. Because of the perspective of this photo, a tall, wide hotel building (Novotel Melbourne South Wharf) that is much further back from the portal looks like it is the same height as the portal. And because the portal is twisted towards the left, it looks like their tops are almost touching each other.

#safeonSummerhill This week kids and other Footscray riders won a 2 year bike lane trial on Summerhill Rd.

"As the culmination of BikeWest's #safeonSummerhill campaign, a Kidical Mass cycling event was held for local residents who want their children and loved ones to be safe while traveling through our suburbs. We rode from Summerhill Road to the Council meeting in Braybrook.
At the meeting 12 of us spoke & really enlightened Council what was at stake. My god, the presentations were incredible - so heartfelt, personal, vulnerable, genuine."
