I had a blast with the Quest 2, but that thing is bulky, probably to house the battery and fan.

Reduce the CPU power, and you probably won't need such a big battery and fan.

Meanwhile, Immersed's Visor is sleek and minimalistic, and I suspect it's not very powerful, but powerful enough to project a monitor in a 3D environment.

The whole point of the device is to receive desktop video feed via 802.11n, and relay that in a virtual environment.

No fancy CPU or GPU; just something to project on a 3D environment with headtracking, plus passthrough.

I'm no fan of Meta/Facebook, but it is a little irritating listening to some of the Quest 3 reviews out there. That injection of a line like "Well, we KNOW the Quest 3 won't be as powerful or as sophisticated as the Apple Vision Pro!"

Sure. I guess. Vision Pro isn't out yet, but I get that tech journalists make more money hyping up Apple.

I just wish there was more categorizing on that point. Where a headset that isn't out yet, and will likely only sell around 100,000 units over 2024, and costs SEVEN TIMES MORE than the Quest 3.
Well, we would expect that headset to be a bit fancier right?

Maybe chilling the VR market to wait for Apple to catch up, is NOT the most responsible advice we could be giving consumers interested in VR?

I’m kind of surprised at the lack of software for the Quest 3. There’s basically no software that takes advantage of the marquee mixed reality and spatial features outside the demo and a piano trainer.

Does Meta not have anyone working on developer relations?

I feel like this is a pretty capable headset crippled by the lack of developer imagination. Wish I were a better coder - I can think of 5 apps/utilities that would be killer on this headset.

I owned the Focals by North glasses, and I can't tell you how transformative that experience was. It was NOT any kind of real AR. It was a simple heads up display, with a UI like a smartwatch, but at eye level. It was amazing.

I truly believe we're skipping an INCREDIBLY important step trying to race to magic sci-fi AR. So many interactions with our technology would be wonderfully streamlined with a simple graphic or text at eye level.
