After years of strange problems and bad performance with MongoDB, this week I successfully migrated chesscraft.ca to PostgreSQL. This took lots of preparations, went smoothly, and is performing great, so I thought I'd write about it.
@vladstudio logrotate. It had come surprisingly handy when dealing with log files that *assume* they get rotated, but don't.
#MongoDB is (maybe used to be) one of those culprits.

I have two extensions on CGSize. The first one to persist value of type CGSize (CGSizeObject is a Realm EmbeddedObject), the second to store a CGSize value in @SceneStorage.
BUT: It seems they can't coexist. If I add the second extension I get an error on the first (2nd image).
Any ideas?

Ferret is a proxy that sits between your #mongodb drivers & a #postgres db converting mongo queries into postgres SQL and using PG for the persistence.
I am finding myself at a complete loss as to any practical reason why someone would want to use this. The ONLY case i can make for it is that it satisfies people who are zealous about open source licenses and aren't happy with Mongo's.

Just released v0.28.0 of MongoFramework, my EntityFramework-like interface for the #MongoDB driver.
The big change in this release is the new fluent mapping builder! MongoFramework has supported attribute mapping from the start and some level of automatic mapping but the fluent mapping builder required a lot of core changes to the mapping system (for the better)!

CouchDB's on the other hand is essentially "hey, flip a coin" 🤦♀️

I can not figure out one aspect of my coding brain.
I am like pathologically drawn to non-standard languages, frameworks, tools, etc.
Ex.: #CouchDB totally aligns with many of my design values.
At the same time my next project needs full-text search with stemming, which it doesn't have. #MongoDB has it baked in (also PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite), & CouchDB has radically worse #ruby support. So, MongoDB's objectively a better choice.

Interesting post from Jordan Tigani, one of the founding engineers of Google BigQuery. Tigani sees a bright future for SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL and stagnation for "NoSQL" and "NewSQL" systems.

@agentslug ok, so MongoDB connection via node is all fine. But this web UI is so slow that I can't operate it. Dropping collection takes ages, same for removing some documents. Donno if it's because Safari (on iPhone even the pricing website crashes) or what, but UX is terrible there.
