Hab mich eben mal in das Thema "JSON Chapters Format" (https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/podcast-namespace/blob/main/chapters/jsonChapters.md#json-chapters-format) eingelesen. Bisher kannte ich Chapter-Marker für #Podcasts nur direkt eingebettet in die #MP3, aber der #json Ansatz mit entsprechender Angabe im #rssfeed gefällt mir, ehrlich gesagt, besser. Haben wir natürlich auch direkt für @rebootpolitics in Folge 1 eingebaut. Wird in Zukunft dann nach Möglichkeit immer direkt zum Release neuer Folgen dabei sein. :)

Still trying to find an MP3 player that works with rechargeable AA or AAA batteries, does anyone have any ideas?
There is an AGPTEK MP3 player which works with AAA batteries but it doesn't work with rechargeables. I bought one to try it, the voltage on rechargeables is too low for it, it keeps powering down after a couple of songs.
I would just like an MP3 player whose lifetime isn't tied to a built in battery, and isn't dependent on throwaway batteries either.

Finally set up a music player again on my #RaspberryPi . In the end I settled for #Volumio, which seems to have all kinds of streaming and other functionalities, but for simply playing your #FLAC and #MP3 files, it's pretty easy - no account or whatsoever needed.
For some reason the android app, to control the player and browse my library, didn't find my pi. I'm using the app #VolumioControl instead, which works like a charm.

Bought a #hifiberry DAC+ Zero to sit on top of the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, and am struggling to find an OS that will work appropriately for my purposes. After trying out about 6 so far with no luck, I'm going to test #Volimio 3.512 and #MoOdeAudio tonight 🤞
Someone at HiFiBerry is claiming the 2W won't work well, while others are claiming success, sometimes via modded OS installs.

A little more than a week ago I cancelled my Spotify subscription and went back to building up my own music library.
No need for DRM to listen to my music, so I can listen how/where/when I want.
No one can suddenly remove songs I'm used to listen to.
For the money I usually spend on Spotify, I can now instead buy an album every month, to add to my music library.
And I think/hope the artists gets a bigger cut of the money I spend on music.

Was looking for an #MP3 #ID3 tag editor for macOS and stumbled upon this site: <https://mp3tag.js.org/editor/> -- Edit ID3 tags directly in the browser! Great idea and no local app necessary. :) Was able to edit my file very conveniently.
It saddens me that two generations have now grown up consuming almost all their music in compressed form - aka #mp3
My son's party #music at the weekend was (of course) all streamed from #Spotify. The sound quality is apalling. Mushy and lacking in sparkle and dynamics. Even including tracks which I know have been recorded to a very high quality standard.
And the artists behind the music are being screwed too.
How can we have gone so backwards 😩

My first #MP3 player was the Sony NW-E7 with a huge 64MB memory - but it didn't really play MP3s without a lot of messing about because Sony never were very keen on open formats like MP3. Since then I've stuck with iAudio.

Any Fedi pals recommend me an MP3 player please, something like an old Archos Jukebox which just plays from folders of MP3s in filename order? Needs to be battery, little LCD/LED screen, at least 16GB. Presents as USB storage device so I can just dump files.
Failing that if anyone has a RPi Zero-W project I can crib, but tbh I’d just prefer to buy a cheap unit from somewhere. It’s only for listening to demos without all that Apple Music faff or jumping through hoops.

Despite learning a lot about computers when I was a kid from the Apple Performa my family had, I've never been an Apple guy, despite owning an iMac once myself. I also really didn't like iTunes, so I never had an iPod.
Back around 2005ish when people were mostly getting iPods and before I got my beloved brown Zune (that someone later stole) I had a wild and wacky (and physically HUGE in comparison) DMC XClef mp3 player that looked like this. It had a LOT of storage space for the time, for the price, and had no software like Apple or Microsoft packaged in with their mp3 players. You didn't need it! You would just plug it up to your computer and transfer the damn files, as it *should* be. A method I use to this very day with my phones.
And I just looked it up to compare, 5th generation iPods around 2005 had about 30 or 60GB drives, these XClefs had 80 to 100GB. I had a friend joke saying I'd never fill it up - and I had to tell him I already pretty much had. 😂

I still really like the result - even if - as I recall - it really was thrown together in just a few late night hours. The inspiration came from that nice horn section sample set.

@lmorchard several years ago in the middle of the Web 2.0 boom I stumbled across all these amazing Blogspot sites of people who were converting old tapes and vinyl of obscure 80s music on basically, simple HTML pages. Amazing gold mine. I wonder if that kind of stuff still exists these days.

Been a ~week since I got this new Mac Mini and it's running #MacOS #Ventura and I'm still going through this head-shaking as in "what did Apple freaking DO" phase as I try to figure out how to copy A SINGLE #MP3 FILE from the Mini to my iPhone. iTunes app is gone. Music app useless for single mp3 transfers. I don't want to sync everything, just copy a damn file. And no I don't want to use Finder. That's also sync.
Do I have to buy a new 3rd party app? I mean, wtf #Apple?

🎶 Wenn ich Audiospuren mittel #Invidious #FreeTube oder #NewPipe herunterlade, gibt es als mögliche Audio-Zielformate: .mp4 bzw. .m4a sowie .webm.
Beides lässt sich natürlich mit #VLC usw. abspielen.
🎧 Um es jedoch auf allen Geräten (bspw. auch auf mp3-Player) bzw. mit allen Programmen abspielen zu können, brauche ich es auch als #mp3.
Im nächsten Schritt wandele ich diese Dateien dann mit #ffmpeg via #WinFF um.
Gibt es da vielleicht eine elegantere Lösung? Wie macht Ihr das?

It's easy to see why Spotify liked this idea. Real podcasts are as open as you could want - encoded in the open #MP3 #standard, distributed over the open #RSS standard - and can be subscribed to and played back by any client. There's no practical way to spy on podcast listeners, nor to enshittify their experience in other ways, say, by blocking #AdSkipping.

From the archives, the lost art of curating a collection. I'd argue this is even a worse issue today in the age of streaming. What does "a music collection" even mean when anything you might ever want to listen to is available on demand for $10 a month?
Everything I wrote back in 2011 still holds true for me today. I use streaming for music discovery, but mostly listen to my MP3 collection, using Audacious.
