"A baby reticulated giraffe at a Tennessee zoo made international headlines last month when word got out that she was born without her spots. It was thought to be the only living giraffe in the world to hold the title — that is, until a wild spotless giraffe was, well, spotted at a reserve in Africa.

The Giraffe Conservation Foundation announced in a Monday news release that the spotless giraffe was found roaming around the Mount Etjo Safari Lodge, a private game reserve in Namibia. The foundation says the Angolan giraffe is the first ever spotless giraffe found in the wild.

"Before the discovery of the Namibian spotless Angolan giraffe, there were only two records of such [a] brown giraffe, both in zoos in Japan in 1972 and most recently in the USA," the news release says."

A Sociable weaver's giant nest in Namibia, probably the most spectacular structure built by any bird.

The Sociable weaver (Philetairus socius) is a species of bird in the weaver family found across #SouthAfrica, #Namibia and #Botswana. This species construct large compound community nests that resemble huts, complete with a sloping thatched-grass roof that sheds rain. These nests are the world’s largest and most populated tree houses, with some weighing up to a ton or more and measuring up to 20 feet wide and 10 feet tall.

Built around large and sturdy structures like acacia trees or sometimes even telephone poles, the nests provide shelter from direct sunshine, rain, drought, and cold. They are large enough to house over a hundred pairs of birds, consisting of several generations at a time. Each breeding pairs tends to its own compartment with its private entrance and line the interior with soft downy plant material. These entrances are packed closely together and when seen from below, the communal nest has a honeycomb appearance. These #birds are constantly making home improvements, adding new nesting chambers, and some nests have remained occupied for over a century!

This lion pride was resting, even the cubs, except for the one cub on top of the rock who had been trying to get the others to play. Suddenly the two female adult lions saw some Springbok that came to the water on the other side of the rock and they moved into high alert positions. One of the Springbok caught sight of the cub on top of the rock and they made their escape.

#Kolmanskop in #Namibia #Africa is an amazing #GhostTown . The town used to be a #diamond mining town. Once the #diamonds ran dry the town was #abandoned . The #desert is slowly swallowing the abandoned buildings. Many structures have #sand half way up the walls.  #Photography #StreetPhotography #travel #Wanderlust #PhotoOfTheDay #TravelPhotography

Any tips on travel #roadtripping cape region south Africa and then Namibia?

Thinking two weeks around cape town perhaps hit the garden route and then fly to Namibia and two more weeks there.

Doing the two oceans run as well on the 15th April. So travel dates are 11th April - 14th May ish.

Also is there a game drive that can be done near Cape town?

Das ist der genialste LiveStream überhaupt!
Die Cam läuft 24/7 an einem kleinen künstlichen Wasserloch mitten in der Wüste Namib. Man kann 12 Stunden scrollen und viele faszinierende Tiere erleben.

Wer auf ca. 10:05 Ortszeit zurückscrollt, kann sehen, wie eine einzelne Oryx einen Pulk Strauße durch die Wüste jagt. 😂🤣
