Many cities have a protest defense or security group already, so i strongly encourage looking into those. In #Nashville we have the Neon Guard.

But individually, the #Queer community should get serious about firearm ownership. Look into arming yourself, because the reality is that it's necessary. The fascists have guns, and the more we are also armed, the less likely they are to use them.

If you cannot stand the thought of arming yourself, at the very least get some pepper spray. Learn how to use it, buy an inactive training spray to test.

For some reason, despite what the state is doing and the growing threat of white nationalist groups, liberals in #Nashville have decided guns are the hill to die on. Our rights are being stripped, and their number one focus is curtailing our right to defense.

Are we really going to trust the cops to enforce gun control fairly? Do we really think they'll disarm all the white nationalists (i.e. their coworkers)? Who do we think the "mentally ill" will be that the #Tennessee state decides to take guns from? Is it a good idea for only the cops to be armed?

Ironically, they're committed to shooting themselves in the foot.

Last summer, the Nashville city council rejected a proposal to bid to host the 2024 RNC convention (they were apparently finalists alongside Milwaukee). They said that they didn't want to deal with the security problems it could bring. While this may at first appear to be a 'heckler's veto', the RNC has only itself to blame for the fear that their convention would create mayhem:
1. Their leadership encourages violent assaults against protesters, even to the point where Rick Perry is promising to pardon a convicted murderer.
2. They continue to minimize and justify the crimes committed on Jan 6 as people fought their way into the capitol.
3. They have aligned themselves with street-fighting gangs like the Proud Boys.

I would not invite these people to my town. I feel sorry for Milwaukee and Wisconsin.

The Tennessee Republican-controlled House voted Thursday on whether to expel a trio of Democratic lawmakers after they participated in a protest against gun violence on the House floor. The lawmakers voted to expel both state Rep. #JustinJones and state Rep. #JustinPearson from the House, but Rep. #GloriaJohnson survived her vote.
