I've been #annotating a #PDF using #logseq and it has worked well across the first 100 pages or so, but as the number of pages increase it is becoming quite janky. Curious if anyone knows of approaches to circumvent this?
It seems that logseq wants to keep all the annotations in a single file - which is probably part of the problem.
The other part of the problem is that it looks like it wants to keep the highlights visible throughout the book.

Even though free Obsidian is not open-source, it gained a lot of traction and users have created so many valuable plugins. I also like that it leaves all my Markdown formatted files in place where they are. One excellent open-source notes editor I tried, insisted on inserting an odd character at the start of every new line as it was intended an outliner, not a notes editor. Thing is, I like to keep my notes as standard as possible so that I can switch to another note taker in future.
The ones I find really useful are:
* Advanced Tables
* cMenu
* Code block from selection
* Copy Image and URL context menu
* Dynamic Table of Contents
* Excel to Markdown Table
* Highglightr
* Kanban
* Kindle Highlights
* Local Images
* Markdown Formatting Assistant
* Obsidian Enhancing Export
* Omnisearch
* Ozan's Image Editor Plugin
* Related Notes Finder
* Tag & Word Cloud
* Tag Wrangler
* Text Format
* txt as md (edits existing .txt files)
* Underline
* Vault Statistics
But we all have different requirements (like some wanting to play Zoom inside Obsidian, use AI, publish to Nostr, etc), so it is well worth browsing the community plugins and seeing what is of interest to you. There are around 1,180 plugins right now.

…notes stored on the server and not locally, are an operational security problem, it doesn't affect us too badly but imagine if others are storing intimate #notes. The website interface is obvious what is happening, but a native client, no. Eg. #fedilab app doesn't store such on server.
We suggest #Tokodon default to local storage for notes, with a small notification above stating "Tokodon notes no longer stored on your server but to <FOLDER>. [Settings…]".
Note-taking people, how do you organize your notes? I've been using Obsidian for some time and it's amazing, but I find that my categories overlap too much and I feel like the organization is falling apart with every new note.

I just have to say that I’m REALLY liking the updates #Apple has made to the #Notes app in #iOS17 - look pretty neat and I’m looking forward into digging into it more.
@shantini you and your team should be really proud of this work, it’s really great. (I THOUGHT I was following someone from the Notes team 😂)
There was one thing I was looking forward to in #iOS17 and that’s links in Notes. It would make #Notes useable. Now I’ve got it and I’m more than disappointed.
Apple, if you do linking you have to provide a back button! Linking notes means going back and forth in your notes. It’s not a one way direction 🤦♂️
Sorry, still not useable for me

I also like that it has a toolbar with all the usual shortcuts like bold, italics, underline, headings, bullets, etc as many people do like that ease of use, instead of only having to remember Markdown codes.
Very importantly for note taking, it does have easy-to-use tags that will help connect all your related notes. If you do need to sync your notes between devices, you could use something like Syncthing that will do that privately and directly between your devices, without any server required.

The new #Drafts 40 update is huge. Nested/tags mean that Drafts can now be used as an organized #notes app much like #Bear, in addition to all the things that make Drafts a genuinely unique app.
And hooray! There’s now a command palette, as there should be in *every* app now.
EDIT: Still no attachments/images, text notes only. I see it as another blade in the Drafts Swiss Army knife. It won’t always replace a specialized tool, but it’s still handy to have in your pocket.

Was ich unter #JoplinApp nicht verstehe ist die Begrenzung auf 10GB Speicherplatzgröße. Das empfinde ich als unnötig und eine Begrenzung. Wer will schon bei einer App die Grenzen sehen?! Hi Carl, again thanks for your #KDE work. Much appreciated!
As you may remember we DM'd a week ago. As a #linux user, we're struggling to locate where '#Notes' are stored for the #Tokodon application. Is there a page anywhere online where we can learn about that? We've tried intuitive locations, such as the '.local' and other folders but to no avail.
Cheers.

#question of the day I take #notes in #Obsidian as I #read. Sometimes I note funny things people say, other times it is some historical background, when it comes to #tech #books, it's usually mainly practical.
I tend to take fairly copious notes - which is great, but also annoying. When I look back over my notes I want to see what I need to know at the moment and not necessarily the rest of it.
I'm curious, is anyone aware of a way to set tags on specific bullet points in an Obsidian doc?

@joplinapp Kind of crazy that they also include #Simplenote, which seems a particularly bad choice for #journalists. Not only is there no #E2EE, but your #notes sit unencrypted on #Automattic’s servers. It’s not that they hold the #encryption keys instead of you, which would be bad enough. With Simplenote, there *are* no encryption keys for data at rest.

i‘m currently in the process of getting rid of the pesky apple #notes app. for ios i‘m copying all text contents to a dedicated folder, my new notes editor of choice will be the #runestone app by @simonbs. i also switched to a new font „ia writer quattro“ by @ia. now i‘m looking for a nice #markdown focused color scheme to complete this transition
@ednico @Calixthe @spinningthoughts @tana_inc @capacities @logseq #Notion has been operating with no E2EE or offline access for years and has plenty of users, so #Tana may be able to succeed without them. I recently migrated all my notes to Obsidian from OneNote, and I couldn't be happier. 📓🎉
I wrote about the process to explain why I think it's a good idea, and to hopefully assist anyone else who might like to do the same thing. Even figuring it out for myself, it took me less than a day, so armed with this blog post, I bet you can do it faster. 🙂

I went back and forth several times trying to decide which to use more of -- YAML front-matter or Dataview inline fields?
What if Dataview plugin no longer available..
In the end, decided that the typical fields that almost all of my notes will use will have YAML fields. Some custom fields for some special notes will use Dataview's inline fields.
Whew. 😅
Asking for some help/tips from the #indieweb community out there. I'm looking to add a #notes (https://indieweb.org/note) feature to my site but am struggling to figure out the best way to do it. Currently my site is hosted on GitHub Pages (so statically generated via Jekyll). I'd prefer to implement something that plays well with Jekyll but am open to bolting something on or standing up functionality on a subdomain if that's better. In the pure IndieWeb sense I am looking to have all my notes permalinked and then #POSSE them out across the various services. Many thanks in advance!
This year's updates to #iOS and #macOS have so many features I was actively trying to replicate before the features were announced. I LOVE these:
1. #Widgets on the desktop - I LOVE them in #macOS #sonoma. I set them to Monotone so they blend in really well
2. Sections/columns in #Reminders - bye subtasks :)
3. Linking in #Notes - No backlinking but who really needs that? I could use a Back button though
4. Profiles in #Safari - I can have Safari as a fully fledged option besides Arc :)
@fleg @pkmplaybook I think you're both right. PKM Playbook appears to be talking about friction being important when *processing* notes, while Florian seems to be referring to friction being the enemy of *capturing* notes.
I think it can be helpful to have a capture workflow that's separate from one's thoughtfully curated repository of notes, or at least contained / separate from notes that have already been processed.
@obsidian #Evernote users need to know about this. Looks like other #notes and #PKM app users should keep an eye on this for future migrations, too:
> The first conversion format we have added is .enex for Evernote. We will be adding more file formats to convert your notes from Notion, Apple Notes, and other formats including folders of HTML files.
@richardcarter @ellane I liked #Bear, which was my last #Notes app before #Obsidian. But at this point I don’t see myself giving up plaintext files in my local file system for my medium- and long-term notes. It would also be hard to leave behind @obsidianmd’s customizability and ecosystem of plugins. I also like that if Apple does anything to #macOS that I can’t live with, cross-platform apps like Obsidian are making #Linux more viable for daily use, because I don’t want to use #Windows again.
this is interesting.
I have been excessive #EverNote user since over 12 years & still work well with it…
search & tag & folder functions / structure are still superb, I think
but it seems like checking out other apps will be the right proactive thing to do
beside #Obsidian and the otter usual suspects - any other recommendations ??
(I don’t need fancy collaboration - just #notes taking mastery)
Does anyone know if Tiago Forte has weighed in on the #Evernote situation? He's a long-time user.
I'll be interested to learn if he continues with them at the higher price, or moves to another app. Just imagine if he joined the #Obsidian train! I actually reckon he'd be more of a #Tana guy, if I had to hazard a guess.
