Tambien me permite transcodificar musica y escuchar radios. #musicplayers #softwarelibre #opensourcesoftware #musica #music #radio #rockmusic

Little tip for when you're suggesting features to a project: "Feature Idea" sounds so much nicer than "Feature Request". Rather than sounding like "I want this, this is an order!", it's more like "Hey, this would be cool, what do you think?"
This also goes out to all the maintainers creating issue labels, by the way.

#UkraineWar #Flucht uvm.
I think you ought to know one damn OS in a lifetime and be proficient with it. Period.
Do NOT LISTEN to "modern experts" for their viewpoint of bringing a plethora of stuff, just to do a trivial thing ...meh ..
what a disgrace to technology... Unfortunately, these monkeys rule the roost....heck :(
For those who can't afford commercial software, and for those who want full flexibility and extensibility and future-proofing the ability to open their own art work years from now, there's free open source software:
* #Krita: replaces Adobe Photoshop for editing and painting;
I don't use anything else: there's no need. And all of the above are extensively documented.
@kjaymiller I think as with any documentation the key is knowing your audience: what's the purpose of that file in your project and who do you want to read it? E.g. if it should be as a checklist for maintainers, make it short and terse; if it should be an overview of project-specific conventions for experienced open source contributors who are new to the project, make it a little longer and more detailed; if it should be a tutorial for people getting into OSS contribution for the first time, make it verbose and full of relevant links. Or something like that.
I do think I'm kind of stating the obvious here (like, I suspect none of this is surprising to you), but IMO these are the important things to think about.

Today, we finally launched Open Source Explorers! If any of you know people who would like to get involved in open source but have found it difficult to get into, would you please let them know about our little program?
We’re looking for developers but also specifically for participants who are not developers, e.g. designers, translators, etc. And, yes, we’re building this program especially with folks from marginalised communities in mind because, despite good intentions, OSS isn’t always as welcoming as we’d like it to be, so we want to remove some barriers and get more folks into open source.
Also: participants will be indirectly contributing to humanitarian aid delivery, which is kinda neat, I think.

Applications are open until end of November!
If you have any questions or want to become a mentor or sponsor, please reach out to us at the email address linked on the landing page!
And please boost my post and share the info with your networks elsewhere! Thank you! 💙
Does your organization use open source? OpenLogic by Perforce is partnering with the @EclipseFdn and @osi for its annual State of Open Source survey. Take a few minutes to share your thoughts. Also I think #CriticalInfrastructure should mandate #OpenSourceHardware and #OpenSourceSoftware for everything wothout exceptioms, including the requirement to provide free, unrestructed and non-paywalled #APIs that are dpculented to interface with required systems.
In case you haven't seen this yet, check out the Single Sign-On Wall of Shame at https://sso.tax/
It lists products and companies that believe secure authentication is for enterprises only. (I removed a rant about a failing "commercial open source" todo app called Focalboard and bug number 103 because they seem to be failing without extra attention.) I've actually had arguments with several of the listed companies' sales people about this exact thing; having the list at hand next time will make my life much easier.
As much as I feel that SSO should be standard for any multi-user app these days, the Wall of Shame is a little kinder about it. From the FAQ:
While I’d like people to really consider it a bare minimum feature for business SaaS, I’m OK with it costing a little extra to cover maintenance costs. If your SSO support is a 10% price hike, you’re not on this list. But these percentage increases are not maintenance costs, they’re revenue generation because you know your customers have no good options.#sso #oss #opensourcesoftware #security #antipattern
Have you seen a Contributor License Agreement (CLA) that's made to a single commercial entity (so foundations or non-profits excluded) that does *not* reserve the right to sub-/dual-/re-license on their part unilaterally? (Where?)
Or: have there been legally binding restrictions on the licenses that they might choose?
(Please boost for reach.)
I am sure, you are smart enough to know it already. Well, that is not the point, but for those who missed on such an obvious thing. :)

Last week, I presented the work I did with prof. Kuldeep Meel and prof. Arunabha Sen at IJCAI 2023.
We showed the benefits of reducing a problem to a computationally harder problem (yes, you read that right!), by demonstrating how it allows us to solve much larger problem instances.
It was so much fun to finally share this work with so many fantastic researchers at IJCAI! Thank you to all organisers for making this conference possible. I'm also super grateful to the reviewers who gave us great feedback!

🚀 Unleash the Power of Cumulative Mean in R! 📊
As data-driven professionals, understanding the "cumulative mean" can revolutionize our statistical analysis. 📈 This insightful measure unveils the evolving average value of a dataset over time, making it perfect for time-series analysis, trend spotting, and smoothing noisy data.

In more happy news, NASA has just updated their policy on releasing software to make it easier to release their software as open source.
This is really into the policy weeds, but it makes it easier to release scientific software, develop software openly, and contribute to existing open source projects.
Exactly what we need! Order done, very excited now!
