Little tip for when you're suggesting features to a project: "Feature Idea" sounds so much nicer than "Feature Request". Rather than sounding like "I want this, this is an order!", it's more like "Hey, this would be cool, what do you think?"

I don't use anything else: there's no need. And all of the above are extensively documented.
#OpenSourceSoftware zu entwickeln, heißt meist, Zeit in der Freizeit zu investieren, um etwas umzusetzen, was für die Anwendenden (und das Entwickly) ein unterstützendes Tool an die Hand geben soll.
Dass die nutzende Community herzlich dazu aufgerufen ist, Fehler zu melden oder Wünsche zu äußern, ist hierbei natürlich selbstverständlich.
Solange diese Meldungen konstruktiv bleiben (und ich muss mich da zu einem gewissen Teil auch selbst noch verbessern).
Es hilft keinem Entwickly, wenn ständig Feedback kommt wie: "Das scheiß Ding stürzt ständig ab" oder "Das kann doch nicht so schwer sein, XY einzubauen". Im Gegenteil. Das führt zu Frustration und trägt eher dazu bei, dass die Lust zur Pflege des Projekts verloren geht.
Wahrt einen höflichen Ton und seid nicht enttäuscht, wenn der angetragene Wunsch nicht sofort umgesetzt wird. Freizeitprojekte leben von Lust und Laune am Machen. Manchmal ist die Motivation höher, manchmal nicht so. Ist halt so. Wir sind alle nur Menschen. Bitte behaltet das im gegenseitigen Umgang immer im Hinterkopf.
@kjaymiller I think as with any documentation the key is knowing your audience: what's the purpose of that file in your project and who do you want to read it? E.g. if it should be as a checklist for maintainers, make it short and terse; if it should be an overview of project-specific conventions for experienced open source contributors who are new to the project, make it a little longer and more detailed; if it should be a tutorial for people getting into OSS contribution for the first time, make it verbose and full of relevant links. Or something like that.
I do think I'm kind of stating the obvious here (like, I suspect none of this is surprising to you), but IMO these are the important things to think about.

Funding a project and requiring it to use #opensourcesoftware certainly does not ensure funding the creators of the #oss! Too often the consultancy company just takes all the money and just uses the software without any contribution to the project. #osorturns15

Today, we finally launched Open Source Explorers! If any of you know people who would like to get involved in open source but have found it difficult to get into, would you please let them know about our little program?
We’re looking for developers but also specifically for participants who are not developers, e.g. designers, translators, etc. And, yes, we’re building this program especially with folks from marginalised communities in mind because, despite good intentions, OSS isn’t always as welcoming as we’d like it to be, so we want to remove some barriers and get more folks into open source.
Also: participants will be indirectly contributing to humanitarian aid delivery, which is kinda neat, I think.

It lists products and companies that believe secure authentication is for enterprises only. (I removed a rant about a failing "commercial open source" todo app called Focalboard and bug number 103 because they seem to be failing without extra attention.) I've actually had arguments with several of the listed companies' sales people about this exact thing; having the list at hand next time will make my life much easier.
As much as I feel that SSO should be standard for any multi-user app these days, the Wall of Shame is a little kinder about it. From the FAQ:
While I’d like people to really consider it a bare minimum feature for business SaaS, I’m OK with it costing a little extra to cover maintenance costs. If your SSO support is a 10% price hike, you’re not on this list. Any #lawyers out there with a good grasp of #OpenSource? I am interested in the possible use of #OSS licenses (possibly #GPL v2) with explicit restrictions on using the software to train AI. I need some advice on whether this is a thing that can be done.
