It's cold. It's dark. There's a lot of terrible things happening in the world right now, and the forced merriment of the holiday season can often feel so dissonant with how we feel individually.
With that in mind, can folks share things that they're feeling hopeful about right now? It could be some positive news about the on-going #covid19 #pandemic, #ClimateChange, local organizing you've seen in your area, or just something you personally are happy about or looking forward to.
I need some #positivity right now, and I'm sure others do as well.
Here's my contribution: My area's local libraries have started giving away free #covid tests again. It seems small, but it's a reminder to people that covid is still a problem, and maybe some people who wouldn't otherwise test will now and possibly avoid spreading covid.

Quietly positive today. All the design software I haven’t used for over five years is coming back to me. I’m able to create design proofs for our business. I’m able to work at home. These days I have to remind myself again of this #quote by Hans Rosling in #Factfulness: "Remember: things can be bad, and getting better." With the news from #Ukraine, #Israel and other conflicts I sometimes doubt it, but I believe* that when we take a birds-eye-view of decades and taking the whole world into consideration, not just specific hotspots, it's still true. And I still have hope for the future of humanity. Which is what we need to inspire us to *act* to ensure that the world will continue to get a better place, instead of saying that the world is burning and giving up.

I consider myself an #optimist and believe that good will win out in the end.
However there are two important points to bear in mind:
1. Over the centuries many optimists have had bombs dropped on their heads, been tortured or had their heads chopped off.
2. Even if good will win out in the end that doesn't mean we won't go through a few centuries of darkness and suffering in the meantime.

I have no problem being optimistic about #LK99, even if it fails to meet the rather high expectation of total technological revolution, but I am happy to be more optimistic than I am pessimistic about any potential future better than our present.
You can be highly optimistic and still reasonably understand the low chance of success of any one, or multiple, things that could be a net-benefit in the off-chance of success. There is no need to chastise those that had high hopes and excitement because you are more nihilistic in your own expectations.

Even though these are very hot days (even though they say next week will be even hotter), last year around this time I was weak due to some issues, and I felt crushed by the heat.
