3 Phalaenopsis. Last year, the oldest started producing only one spike. ~6 years old.
2 new plants had 2 spikes. Both are growing only one spike this fall.
Window faces slightly northeast. Feed ~Aug thru May. 73F to 78F summer. 66F (night) to 73F fall and winter. Clear plastic orchid pot with orchid medium. Soak in water when roots are silver. Humidity ~40% in fall ~65% in the summer.
Suggestions to get them to produce two spikes much appreciated.
Here is the results from some #orchid hunting. More Diuris than I've ever seen before and dense patch of what I think is some yet to flower Sun Orchids.
I will be returning here next week so I hope that patch of Sun Orchids has decided to open. Would make for some amazing photos.
This orchid hasn't flowered in many many years... Sometimes patience is rewarded 😊

They often have species you might see in any tropical garden. I was surprised at how many I've come across even in peoples yards around here. But the big advantages for me are the greenhouses cause I get pretty starved for blooms in winter and early spring time, lol. Plus the #orchid rooms always have a big variety blooming at the same time👍. These are from that same trip to Chicago's Conservatory. #orchids
A photo of a cluster of the beautiful fuchsia colored Hong Kong orchids from the tree of the same name. There are several varieties of this botanical growing in the Florida landscape and this is just one. They smell delicious too.

Es sieht aus, als hätte sich die #Chili bei der #Orchidee mit etwas angesteckt. Habt ihr eine Idee, was das sein könnte und wie man den beiden helfen kann?

Do you have any idea, what the #orchid infected the chili with and how to help them?

Good Monday, Fedi Friends.
This is another of my focus stacking images, taken with my Canon 180mm macro lens. The method involved taking multiple images, each time moving the camera a minute distance closer on a rail. There were a total of 40 images taken to produce this.

Enjoy your day!
I’ve taken care of the poorly orchids today. I thought someone else was looking after them but turned out there wasn’t.
Felt good to give them a little spa bath and dust off their leaves, and now I hope they will perk up a bit. They’re “only” plants but it was important for me right now to do this 🌱💚 At least one place where I can make a difference 🥰
For years on end my orchid would only bloom in winter and in fall looked like this. I love it like that, I like the wonky leaves best anyway (maybe), so I made the #linocut like that— unblooming. Here is an example of a copy with the embossed paper mark on it. Buy it here: https://www.schulte-printmaking.com/product/11609687/orchidee-orchid

Happy Floral Friday!
A few years ago we had these lovely orchids. I think when they finished flowering we gave them to a friend who is gifted in bringing them back in their original beauty. That's a skill we don't have. But we got the photo to remember them by.
Protocorm-like bodies have important application potential in the #orchid industry; their regeneration is a distinct process in #plant #development and the key to improving orchid #bioengineering. Learn more here!

I have no idea how or why, but for some reason a leek #orchid (Microtis) has spontaneously come up in a pot on our balcony. Means not only must a seed have got there somehow from one of the nature reserves nearby, but also a symbiotic fungus capable of nurturing the orchid seedling seems to live in that pot.
As the nights are getting colder, we've started to bring in some the orchids from the glass greenhouse. It is too expensive to heat it over the winter.
This specimen (Pleurothallis dilemma) had a stowaway that we didn't discover until it started calling from the kitchen yesterday evening after we turned the lights out.
Bulbophyllum (fka Cirrhopetalum) Elizabeth Ann 'Buckleberry' FCC/AOS (B. longissimum x B. rothschildianum). B. 'Elizabeth Ann' was bred by S Low and registered with the RHS by J Chambers in 1969, and presumably 'Buckleberry' was a subsequent development, but I can't find that info. The furthest back I can find it is getting an AM/AOS in 1986.
I just learned that there is an oncidium #orchid that was given the name "Tribbles". I'm guessing it's because the cross is between Oncidium Trilobum and Oncidium Nobile, but now I wonder if the breeder made the cross because they could have a cool name.
About two months ago, I received 12 vanilla #orchid cuttings, rather than the 4 I expected after ordering them on a whim. Since I had extras—of a plant I didn't really expect to keep alive anyway—and not enough small pots, I experimented with putting some of them in a mix of potting soil, sphagnum moss, and orchid bark… in an acacia bowl.
This single-node cutting has since grown a root as long as itself! I'm calling this an outright win. 😁 #bloomscrolling

my neighbor's husband was thinning out his #orchids, so now i am the owner of this tangled mess of little red orchids.
these are #epiphytes & as far as i can tell, don't need any soil at all. roots come out of the stem, and as the stem gets longer, more roots come out of the newer parts of the stem.
the flowers are tiny, but they are cute ^-^

This is number 5 in my series of vintage botanicals and shows beautiful pink Cattleya orchids with a burgundy lip in the domed, greenhouse-like gold wire cage. A lovely image for anyone who grows orchids or simply loves them.
I've been growing orchids hydroponically for a few years now.
Things I've learnt:
1) They don't like crowding.
2)They don't like spending a day dry (some people recommend this).
3) Change the water weekly.
4) Feed with a specific orchid feed. (my local DIY shop sells it, so it's available everywhere)
This is one of my wildest successes. It's a philaenopsis. There are loads of articles on it.
Look up 'orchid hydroponics'. Easy.

Our Epiphyllum (orchid cacti) is sure giving her best effort to finally bloom. We have been waiting for years. Amazing that this is happening just a few weeks after our freak hailstorm (26-May-23) that beat the crap out of our tropical garden.
