Home ownership is what drove the explosive growth of the white #MiddleClass in the 50s & 60s.
That growth could NOT be sustained indefinitely.
Huge swaths of land were turned into #suburbs for white families who previously lived in cities.
Building more suburb at that rate is a TERRIBLE idea.
HOWEVER: the right alternative is NOT for giant equity funds to own everything.
We need a better model of #ownership.

I think people need to start thinking about owning, not renting. In all sorts of different ways in their lives. So many businesses have tried to invent software-as-a-service (where you have to constantly pay, or you lose access to functionality) housing-as-a-service (i.e., traditional renting), driving-as-a-service (i.e. the #Tesla business model), reading-as-a-service (any #eBook publisher), listening-to-#music-as-a-service, watching-#movies-as-a-service, etc.
When you _own_ something, you have a very different set of rights than when you "license" it or "rent" it or "subscribe" to it. And with those rights comes responsibilities. Like my disk space in my house is FAR cheaper than anyone would rent to me, but it is up to me to make sure it's reliable, backed up, protected, etc. I buy films on DVD. If I want to give it to you, I can. If I want to watch it, I can, for free—even if the Internet is slow.
People today are being sold on all kinds of deals that make them continually pay, subscribe, renew, etc. or they lose access to features, functions, data, history, information, etc. We need to teach the next generation the value of #ownership, not rentership.
