As an atheist (and target), I'm glad Christian extremists tend not to hide their intentions. Makes scouting them out much easier.
An example is this blog post against Pagan worship, as though it were actually harmful. Quoting Ezekiel 6:13 makes their desires quite clear, in hope if not active intent.
I find far more hope in Nature than in this brand of Christianity.

One of the emerging traditions I feel unique to #atheopaganism is reviving the Victorian custom of winter (Christmas) ghost stories. Naturally the most renowned story to survive is Dickson's Christmas Carole. There are however a Trevor trove of published stories to draw from. We need new stories of this time to speak to our tradition. Perhaps there is a zine project? A collection of modern ghost stories for #WinterSolstice / #yule told by #atheopagan and other #pagan naturalist voices...

Interesting facts I've observed: #trans and #neurodivergent people are far more common in #Pagan and #Polytheist circles than in any other social spaces I've experienced. Maybe those most rejected by the mainstream are more likely to find a place in uncommon spiritual spaces?

I practice a form of Roman Polytheism, with a lean towards reconstructionism but a fair bit of eclecticism to fill in the gaps + make things easier & more compatible with modern life. I also venerate deities from Norse paganism.

Two of Horns: The world is in flux, both the Big World and our own private lives. It will all even out in the end, but for now, stay focused on whatever needs to be done each day. Focus on the practicalities, and the new pattern will sort itself out soon enough.

Paradigms, models, and entities aren't metaphysically "real" unless you can empirically observe, measure, & have data for an instantiated instance of that entity.
Otherwise, it should be treated as speculation and thus have the same ontological properties as #fiction. Too many magicians are becoming consumed by their own fictions. Most #magick is a fictional, artistic narrative until you can measure an instance of it. It's a useful #mythology.

Just sent out a large batch of holiday aka Xmas/Yule cards to family and close friends. The trickiest part is those certain family members that are quite set in their religious ways and I am not exactly religiously aligned with them, and picking out a generally neutral enough card that doesn’t offend me or them.
Yes they know I’m different, and I could simply dismiss them from my life for being too Far Right or whatever, but I do still care about them and if they can tell I’ve put in an effort to graciously meet them more than halfway, then I’ve shown them us left-leaning old hippies are maybe not so bad.
It is worth it to have some compassion and keep these connections going if it means I can still reach them. I know I sound very son Luke talking about dad Vader but hey, I’m supposed to be open and caring.

Our first snowfall of the year! The Yule season is here!
I planted this balsam fir tree when I moved into the house, 12 years ago now. The intention was to cut it down to make my own Yule logs. Once it got big enough, I couldn't do it.
It was hosting a family of rabbits underneath, and had a bird's nest in its branches. Last year, a deer made a bed under its boughs. It is no longer my tree, but the forest's.

The Tomten family are enjoying their offerings. Like the Ancestors, they are especially fond of marshmallows. Though they look like Solstice decorations, they comprise our house spirit altar, so they stay out year round. I made them from thrift-store wool sweaters that I felted.

3/ Ragana seems to be one of the primordial goddesses- Bird Goddess aspect ( I think I need to do a deep dive and a blog post, maybe)- associated with maintaining balance: between life /death and natural forces, even balancing Sun / Saule's power- her strongest time is from summer to winter solstice as Sun wanes.
She is also connected at times with healing, so I guess that's why I was led in this direction today--and I've continued to feel better today. #metaphors #pagan #animist #Latvian
1/ Felt a little under the weather the last couple of days, so this morning before getting up I was briefly thinking/ #meditating on Earth Power/ #LifeForce / #GreatMother/ #BirdGoddess (all the same thing, more or less)- as a calming /focussing /affirming/ #balancing practise. Today feels like a good day to get a discussion going while also learning something, so today, I would like to ask the instance (and, well, all the #pagan and #polytheist folks in the relevant hashtags) a question: what's your favorite myth? It could be one from your faith or one that relates to a deity that you honor.
I'll go first, and this is going to be hard for me because I've had a few myths I've really loved over the years.
When I was a kid, I was weirdly obsessed with a myth from Ancient Egypt where Set killed Osiris. I honestly couldn't tell you why, but I knew all the details by heart.
In the version of the story I knew, Set created a box perfectly sized to Osiris' measurements, and brought it out as a party game. Set said whoever could fit into the box got to keep it. Naturally, Osiris was the only one who could fit inside, and when he climbed in, Set slammed the lid shut, trapping him inside. Once he was dead, Set tore his corpse to pieces (I specifically remember it being 14 pieces) then scattered the pieces of Osiris' corpse throughout Egypt. Later, Isis set about putting Osiris back together, but that part of the story wasn't that interesting to me. >>
When I started exploring Norse Paganism, though, I fell in love with several myths, and a lot of them are about Loki. My favorite one, though, is mostly about Thor.
One day, Thor discovers Mjollnir, his hammer, is missing, and gains Loki's help to find it. It turns out the jotunn Thrym stole it and he won't give it back unless Freyja comes to him to marry him.
Freyja, quite understandably, becomes very angry by this idea and refuses.
After consulting with the rest of the gods, Thor is ultimately made to dress as a bride, complete with a veil and jewelry. Loki dresses up as one of "her" handmaids, and they go to Jotunheim together.
Thrym, surprisingly, accepts this at face value, and holds a wedding feast for "Freyja." Thor being Thor, he eats and drinks voraciously which is in contrast to Thrym's impression of Freyja. Loki makes the excuse that "Freyja" has starved herself for 8 days and nights before coming. Thrym raises "Freyja's" bridal, intending to kiss her, but sees furious eyes staring back at him, seemingly burning with fire. Loki makes the excuse that "Freyja" hasn't slept for eight nights as she was so eager to be here.
Eventually, the jotnar bring out Mjollnir and lay it on "Freyja's" lap to "sanctify the bride." This, however, put the hammer right back into Thor's hands, and with it, he struck Thrym, beat all the present jotnar, and returned home with his beloved hammer.

More impermanent art on fallen leaves. Here, a sycamore. It’s a bit like writing a letter then burning it. There’s something very healing in drawing on a leaf, with certain intentions and feelings in mind, and then letting it go. Under the tree that it fell from, then into the river that keeps it alive. Hello there! It's nice to meet you. I'm new around here, but I was overdue for an #introduction post.
My name's Beth (they/them pronouns, please), and I'm a #nonbinary and #asexual #pagan, #witch, and #tarot reader. I'm also very much a #polytheist .
I do have a more mundane account here on Mastodon where I talk a lot about gaming of all kinds (and you can follow me over on @thyanel if that's of interest to you), but I recently realized I missed having a community of pagans to talk to and connect with, so here I am! This account will not only be for that, but also to share things that connect to my path and my craft, and I'm excited to be part of this space.
At one point in time, I absolutely considered myself a Norse pagan, but as time went on, I found it didn't completely mesh with my worldview. I'd consider myself a bit more eclectic nowadays, but I'm still not entirely sure if the label fits me or not.
I also own and operate an online shop, The Quiet Cat Atelier (hence the username), which is primarily for tarot readings and (eventually) other things like printables and stuff like that, but I did open it with a love of tarot in mind. I've been a tarot reader for 20 years now and it's one of my favorite ways of learning more about myself and connecting to the world around me.
More mundanely, I'm a cat auncle to two adorable cats who share my space and I love them even though they're occasionally chaos gremlins. I still consider New England to be my home despite no longer residing there. I hope to go back one day, but for now, I am where I am and am trying to make the best of it.

Much of the lore around #Halloween really derives from 19th century historians looking for #pagan survivals in the modern day. Druids didn't go door to door demanding gifts and threatening horrors if the house owners didn't comply; that was just a bit of fun started by Christians in17th century.
But there is some (vague) evidence that the pagan Celtis did think of Samhain as a liminal time, when the sídhe could enter the world of the living. That all combines to give us modern #Halloween

#AllSaintsDay, or #AllHallowsDay, is commonly described as a #Christian coöption of Samhain, but that's also not the case. When All Hallows' Day was introduced, it was celebrated on a range of days, including 1 November. In #Ireland and #Scotland, however, it was originally celebrated on 23 April. So if it was intended to replace a #pagan festival, that festival was #Bealtaine, not Samhain.

While there are many factors contributing to the phenomenon we call the witch hunts, I contend one way they can be understood is in terms of a change in the conception of consciousness from group to personal dynamics. Let’s look at the many ways in which this change was evidenced in Europe in the 15th & 16th centuries, and why this change contributed to bringing about the witch hunts.
