I truly enjoy gaming on (Nobara) #Linux and on my #SteamDeck. It makes me feel more in control of my devices, and my devices more optimized for what I need. I still struggle to recommend any other budget #pcgaming option that isn't the entry-level Steam Deck. The problem is we're still not on the major games' (not the best) radar. It's absolutely fantastic #Microsoft and 343 have supported the Steam Deck, but this sort of thing makes selling my friends on gaming on Linux/Deck significantly harder. It's still an uphill battle, but every new member of the Linux community helps the rest climb that hill.

The First Descendant is horribly generic.
It's like a third-person Destiny where the missions just consist of the same kind of "patrols" to clear out each area of the map. Boring.

Woo! RAM just arrived. Now just waiting on my thermal paste and GPU.
My current #pc has 32GB of DDR4 3000mhz so I figured 64 GB of DDR4 3600mhz will be a nice upgrade for me.
I know there are higher speeds, and DDR5 is out now, but that would require me to gamble with an AM5 processor and motherboard.
Maybe when AM6 is here, AM5 will be stable enough to take the plunge. For now…AM4 has treated me very well for the last 6 years, so I’m sticking with it. 👌🏾

Steam has been incredibly important in my life and has played a massive role in the formation of my community of friends. I met most of my best friends because of Steam. It also created an incredible PC gaming environment that cemented PC gaming as the premiere way to play most games.

So very tired of modern “#PixelArt” #VideoGames. Most of the time it’s stolen valor by devs who weren’t even *born* when #3dfx was still riding high with its Voodoo Graphics #GPU cards, in hopes that players will overlook the derivative gameplay because they get a #RetroGaming frisson from the visuals.
I paid for *all* the dots in this “Retina display.” Use them.
I forget who was curious the other day, but I broke out my physical copy of @platformalist's game Leaving the Tree today and opened it up again. I had totally forgotten how many cool things were packaged with it. There was so much, it was tough to get a pic on my desk! 😂 I'll try to get some gameplay soon - it's even compatible with most Xbox USB controllers.
The rad wood 256MB USB cart in the middle of the photo contains the game and even more of Andrew's (his Eggnog company's) games too- Maze Dog, Coffee Bug, Winterberry, Cat Bandit, Cake Cat, and more.
Incredible, all of it. Lots of stickers and two-sided character profile cards here too. On the other sides of the cards are little descriptions like on the overturned card in the top right.

Well that was a screw up.
I have security settings on my system to stop programs writing any data to any folder.
This means I have to manually authorise any new programs.
Normally that's not a problem.
Today I discovered that the game Starfield, will fail to save anything until you restart it after authorising it.
After I'd completed 2 missions and the tutorials.
Now I have to do them again.
I am not happy... I hate forced tutorials that you can't skip.

All aboard the Unity, now voyaging toward Alpha Centauri - Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.
SMAC remains one of my most played 4X games and I've played it at least once a year since its release in late 1999 and many, many times in the first few years of owning it. I remember it was one of the main driving forces behind picking up a higher-resolution monitor.
Its hard science fiction premise is compelling and the world-building is exquisite. Great voice acting, too with some really memorable performances from the faction leaders. And I adored how the story of Planet and the human colonists and the societies they built in the centuries after Planetfall was told in such wonderful detail via the technology upgrades and a few key events depending on what path to victory you take.
It's easily one of the richest science fiction settings included in a video game.
Does anyone else have a burning love for it?

Fan de #Fallout et amateur de #JaggedAlliance je pensais tomber à fond dans #FalloutTactics, acheté sur Priceminister ou 2xmoinscher ou un truc du genre. Bon en fait je suis jamais allé très loin mais il est dans ma to-do list mentale faudrait vraiment que je m'y mette.
J'étais au collège, habitué à jouer à des démos ou des vieux jeux gratuits trouvés dans des magazines. Les jeux neufs étaient rares et l'idée de pirater ne m'avait jusque-là pas trop effleuré. Jusqu'à ce qu'un copain me refourgue #TombRaider2 (sympathique) et ça. Ça, c'est #Fallout, une claque monumentale, un univers d'une richesse et d'une densité inédites pour moi. Entre temps racheté en boîte, et refait régulièrement depuis.

Pas l'impression que la suite de #Syndicate soit le jeu de #Bullfrog qui soit le plus passé à la postérité, et pourtant c'est le seul de la série que j'ai fait. Honnêtement je ne suis jamais allé trop loin, j'ai le souvenir d'une ambiance folle mais d'une difficulté relevée, d'une interface un peu absconse et d'objectifs à l'avenant. Impressionné tout de même par la possibilité de se balader librement dans une ville de bonne taille, une de mes obsessions !

Dans la vie, j'adore arriver quand la fête est finie. Par exemple, en intégrant la rédac de Joystick un an avant la fin du mag, ou encore en naissant à l'aube d'un cataclysme climatique global et définitif.
Bref, j'ai découvert #Ultima avec le IX, jeu graphiquement sublime qui mettra mon Pentium 100 à genoux. Ce n'est qu'après avoir réussi à convaincre mon pôpa d'investir dans une meilleure bécane que j'ai pu vraiment y jouer et découvrir que ce n'était pas top.

Il est de bon ton aujourd'hui de parler de Peter Molyneux comme d'un sordide tocard, mais dans les années 90, les jeux estampillés Bullfrog étaient systématiquement synonymes de propositions ludiques inédites, de graphismes superbes et d'humour corrosif.
Dungeon Keeper pour moi c'est un peu le sommet de cet âge d'or, après ça ça ne sera plus tout à fait le même niveau.

A propos de Dune : mon préféré reste le premier, ses graphismes fous, son ambiance incroyable. Malheureusement, je ne l'ai jamais eu en boîte et vu son prix de nos jours, je ne l'aurai sans doute jamais !
Par contre, beaucoup plus abordable et très sympa aussi : Lost Eden, développé par la même équipe, et pas loin d'en être le successeur spirituel, même si le gameplay partait moins dans tous les sens et que, bon, ben c'était pas Dune !

J'ai découvert Dune II sans connaitre le "premier", sans même connaître les bouquins, juste parce que j'avais vu le jeu tourner chez mon cousin et qu'il avait l'air d'être infiniment plus riche que tout ce à quoi j'avais joué jusque là. C'est sur Megadrive que je me le ferai offrir à Noël 🎅 après en avoir lu un test dans Megaforce sans doute. J'ai choppé la boîte de la version PC, superbe, des années plus tard.
