There is no real recovering from PTSD, only finding a way forward. In the end you can end up understanding a lot more about yourself than you would have without the PTSD experience…that is if you’re fortunate enough to get there. Even then it’s a trade-off. You don’t really fully recover from PTSD, but the path forward challenges you and pushes you into a new reality.

It can be hard, even painful, to think about our shortfalls, problems, or trauma.

#nostalgia is when your mind looks at it's memories with an aggressive filter for all the bad stuff and tries to play that off to your brain as the true reality - but since that world is impossibly idealistic you look at your current world ( with more accurate eyes ) and you fall short. This leads to #depression and you feeling like you can never 'reclaim' that joy from the past because - it never existed, only your bad memory filter is working and you cannot see it.
Instead, realize that today is pretty much the same as it was yesterday ( or in the good old days ) and seek to experience #joy as much as you can today, and let the past be in the past and dead.
The only thing you can learn from the past is that dwelling there will lead you to depression and sadness. Relentlessly pull yourself "back" to the here and now and be Present. What fun thing can you do today? What goal do you have that you can spend some time on today?
Something bad happened yesterday? Well that was then, this is now.
Regret is another agent of evil. Like Nostalgia, it seeks to pull you down into despair.
Want to know why your memories of childhood were so good?
Lack of responsibilities.
Lack of years of memories.
Everything felt 'new'.
You were around people who loved you.
Now that you are older, you have this baggage of memories. But, you also have experience to help you deal with things. These are all advantages if you can navigate the bear traps of nostalgia, regret, and remorse, and find the light of joy and wonder again.
You can be "child like" and still be "mature". It's all a balance.
Don't be so hard on yourself - you're a human who can make mistakes, but you are also the produce of millions of years of physics, chemistry, emotion ... LIFE.
You are literally a miracle. Live as if every moment was a profound gift, but one liberally given to everyone. Abundance is partially a way of thinking.

I was a Buddhist Monk in Thailand in the early 1990s.
One evening my teacher explained how walking meditation and sitting meditation go hand in hand, “Walking prepares the mind, and sitting exposes it.”
He went on to explain how the mind follows the body, just as the body follows the mind. Walking faster invigorates a dull mind, while walking slower and more deliberately slows the mind down so that it’s movements can be seen.
