Why can I think? Because I have been taught a #language and this language determines my #thinking and my #personality. Changing your language can change your personality. According to this, one is programmed by society by learning the language. However, by using language, I use learned thought patterns and am no longer really free in my thinking. But without language I couldn’t think these thoughts at all.
So am I just a prisoner within the walls of my own thoughts or are they those of #society? Have I built my prison myself or do I have to break out of society’s prison? Can I even break out within the simulation?
I suspect that everyone creates their own simulation that could be called truth. We are conditioned to take over the truth from society in order to become a useful member of it.
We can now try to become the hero or queen of our own story (simulation). I suppose that’s all we can achieve in life.
But since I’m not even sure if I’m really real, I’m afraid I have to deny your existence. It is much more likely that you are just part of my simulation.

So there’s this #dating & #friendship app called #Boo that #advertises itself as an #app designed for #introverts to make matches, and is not supposed to be a #beauty competition like other dating #apps are. So I tried it out and as a lot of apps do, they ask me to post a review about the app. Well, with what I tried of the app, they basically are like every other dating app where you have to put #photos on your profile and photos are emphasized over a persons bio just like every other dating app out there. Isnt this against what the app is promoting? If there was a dating app that was truly for people who are tired of the beauty contests, it would work like this
1. No photos on the profile at all, just a bio and other necessary info.
2. People avoid seeing each others faces at first and instead only #text each other, so they can get a conversation going and get an idea of the others #personality.
3. Once a connection between two people is established though #texting, only then are #photos or a #videocall are established.
In #Japan, there was a #speeddating group where everyone put on a #mask while they were having conversations with another perosn. The people in the group had #struggles in the past with dating before, and some people managed to land a second date with the person they #matched with, where they would meet for a second time #unmasked. It goes to show that dating works better when you put personality before someone’s physical #appearance, and there needs to be a dating app that reflects that by allowing a text onyl conversation before #faces of the other person are shown.

One thing that psychology studies taught me is that you really, REALLY cannot reliably please even your friends, let alone everybody.
Still, this is also completely different from saying that It's not worth a little effort to not alienate your friends, or that it's not worth trying to meet your friends halfway. Usually they're hoping to do the same.
In my friendship groups, I have learned that I often end up as a bridge between two groups. Group 1: long-narratives, strong-humility friends, and Group 2: ephemeral-interests, make-a-splash friends. These two groups are often at odds in society--Each group usually thinks the other needs to get over itself.
(Visually it seems to me to be comparable to a problem of textures.)
I can't solve this problem for all of society, but I do find it worth my time to give little affordances here and there. As an example, in my posts here, I try to add context to visual splash/interest, and vice-versa.

Remember the paper showing that it’s specifically *low-conscientious* #conservatives who share fake news? It got lots of coverage. BUT it seems like that claim isn't actually true - in a new paper we fail to replicate it in 5(!) times and also show that even the original data don't support the claim (because they look at overall sharing, not specifically at sharing of false claims). Bottom line: conservatives are more likely to share #misinformation, regardless of their level of #conscientiousness. As for my own trait cluster, I'm an introvert-leaning ambivert, herbal tea drinker, cat lover/owner (we have 3 cats, all feral rescues), and, as is obvious from my username 🤣, (multi-genre) writer. I play more sports than I watch, the primary exceptions to the latter being the Olympics & occasional live sporting events attendance. I don't want to influence these polls one way or the other but all I will say for now is that, based on my own observations, I think some evidence does exist for certain personality/identity trait cluster correlations. Alas, the test pool isn't necessarily representative of the wider world but it IS very interesting to see the responses. I welcome civil discussion on these topics as I find it fascinating how ppl identify & align with w/various trait clusters.
