Dear other #photographers doing photos americans would describe as #nsfw what is a good alternative to patreon? With a membership area?

I currently use #Patreon and #WordPress connecting the Patreon API with the Patreon pro plugin from #codebard.

I am also managing another non photo membership site with the Simple WordPress Membership Plugin #swmp.

I also looked into #Ghost cms but their image galleries are limited to 12 photos a block and the integration would be more expensive in the end …

Day 23 = W

W is for Water.

From the horizon way off in the distance to the beach at Talland Bay in the foreground stretches the ocean in all it's shades of blues and greens through to the grays where it meets the sky and a ship sails to who knows where. The sky, with white fluffy clouds and occasional vapour trail from a passing aeroplane set against the blue stretches to the dark green hills, fields and cliffs which lead walkers along the coastal path to the village of Polperro. Rocks in the water break the waves gently rolling in and then, as they get closer to this old smuggling cove, they break again on the seaweed covered beach.

I do hope you like this photo and the alphabet challenge.

Day 22 = V

Second attempt after breaking my own rules - Sorry about that.

V is still for Venice.

This time, Rialto, one of the most famous bridges over the Grand Canal. Usually this bridge is full of people but with an early start and a good piece of black glass, the exposure was almost a minute and all the people rushing about, simply disappeared.

In the center is Rialto, with it's arch over the canal, topped with 12 windows and one open gateway arch all in white stone. To each side stand the buildings, shops, restaurants and bars with apartments above. Below this are the water busses and taxis which are the essential transport around this floating city. Close to the camera are iconic wooden pole moorings where the gondoliers are left when not in use - there are two types of gondoliers but that's another tale. Thanks to the long exposure, the green/gray water of the canal has a flat surface yet very little reflections.

I hope you like this picture and the challenge. Maybe give it a boost, a favourite or a follow? Why not get involved and join in the challenge, it's not so difficult.

Day 22 - V

V is for Venice.
Street photography has always been a thing for me right back to capturing expressions of people at Santa Pod Raceway in the early 80s with my trusty Canon A1 and AE1 program.

This little snippet of life shows 2 people, a woman mostly dressed in black wearing sunglasses and a man with a long goatee beard and chequed shirt, at the end of a tunnel leading to Piazza San Marco in Venice. They are so engrossed in what's in the shop window that nothing could distract them, not even the thousands of people in the piazza behind them.

Deep in thought in Venice.

I hope you like the work and the challenge. Please consider a like, favourite or even a follow. Maybe even take up the challenge.

U. Uniforms. In a church in Ypres, Belgium in 2014 there was a very simple display to remind us of the horrors of war. Uniforms. All neatly washed, ironed, folded and piled in a cage. All from different countries who killed each other during WWI. All complete with their medals. On top of them all, a tin helmet and floral tribute. At the base, another floral tribute of red flowers, maybe poppies. The surroundings are really not relevant here.

In my eyes, nothing is so fitting as this simple reminder that so many people from so many countries died, in the war to end all wars, for nothing, nothing except the knowledge that everyone was as right as they were wrong. It was not the end of wars as we all know.

Today, T is for Tulip.

A deep pink tulip grows in front of a pale blue fence with rust patches where it is screwed together. The tulip is one with short petals, opening more like a rose but standing on it's green stem and broad green leaves. Another can just be seen to the left.

Sorry for the very short description but sometimes there is beauty in simplicity like this.

I hope you enjoy these photographs and maybe boost or favourite them. Comments are always nice too.

Day 19 - S

S is for Saint Nectan's Glen.

St Nectan's Glen is a magical spot on the North coast of Cornwall (UK) in between Tintahel and Boscastle. There is no easy way to get to it but the walk and climb down to the waterfall is worth it, especially after there has been some heavy rainfall.

The waterfall crashes down the cliff through a hole in the rock face of the glen of maybe 3m across in a cascade of white, foaming water set against the darkness of the rock. All around are ferns and ivy amongst the trees tied with clouties and coins. Clouties are coloured ribbons of cloth, usually from the clothing of the nearest and dearest loved ones you wish to send healing from St Nectan. Once in the glen, the water becomes a peaceful pool then a small river, emptying Northwards into the ocean at Rocky Valley but not before passing an ancient labyrinth petroglyph dading back to the bronze age. This really is a very special and magical area.

I hope you like this photograph and the challenge. If you do, please consider a boost, favourite or even a follow. Why not join in the challenge too, there's no time restrictions, just start with the letter A and see where it goes.

Day 18 - R

R is for Roughtor (please don't ask for the Cornish to English translation unless you can hear me.

Roughtor is next to Cornwall's highest place, Brown Willy - again, please don't ask or judge.

From back to front.

The sky has some high contrast clouds, seemingly floating against a vivid blue background and almost touching the tor itself. Roughtor is quite central, a darker green than he moorland which runs downhill to the deep green pine forest to the right and the granite platform, on which a small wooden stand holds a clear, rock crystal sphere, in which the entire vista is turned upside down.

I do hope you enjoy my work enough to boost/follow/favourite. It would be great if you joined in the challenge too. The rules are in the toot, just remember that it's all about the alt text. Use all those characters.

"A beautiful sunrise over the ocean. You can see the dark horizon on the other shore; the first light is just spilling over the trees above it, casting shades of red to orange across multiple layers of clouds. The ocean below reflects the coloured light back to the clouds in a layering effect. The ocean surface does not move, smooth as a mirror finish. And the day is about to begin "

Day 13 - M

This time, M is for Merlin's Cave.

Merlin's cave is in the cove below Tintagel Castle, the castle that some people say is King Arthur's Camelot, well there is a river Camel not too far away. Here, Merlin's cave lies below to the left in the dark slate and granite of the cliffs, there is the remains of part of the castle standing at the end of the headland, To the right there are more rocky cliffs.

In the centre of the cove rocks rise above the sea which, with a long exposure, has become smooth with white foam where the waves broke against the rocks.

The blue green water meets the distant horizon where the banded grayness of the sky, falls gently to meet it in a curved line that stretches across the centre of the seascape.

I do hope you enjoy this photo, and others in the challenge. If you do, please consider a favourite, a boost or even a comment, maybe even a follow for more challenges to come.

I see a lot of people posting pics, which is normal since we're #photographers but our profession is so much more.

I wonder if we shouldn't broaden our subject(s) and include other parts of our ( #artist) lifes?

Like getting hardware, how we do our post-prod, tips and tricks, feedback on a specific monitor we use, offers for studio rent, a spot in a artists community we've seen, how we do backups, copyright issues (keep an eye on @LeslieBurns), and, and, and...

@hauntedhideaway Yeah, I remember it was a lot like Mastodon is now. I and some others, like @bryanhansel, created a #photographers group that had ~ 200 people in it from all over the world. It was so wonderful to see other’s #photos from places many of us had never been. Everyone was so great, and some of us are still connected, 14 years later! I loved those awesome people. Sadly, Twitter’s changes sent a lot of us racing away and we lost our group.

#Photographers of Mastodon
In my post on hashtags, I was called out (by a few) as elitist, and for denigrating (or downgrading) photos by using the term Snapshot. It was not my intent to offend so I reached out to several pro photographers looking for a better term. There isn’t one, it’s the proper term.

Snaphots are a technical term for a type of photography. A subset of Vernacular photography, an umbrella term used to distinguish artistic photographs from those made for a huge range of other purposes, including commercial, scientific, forensic, governmental, and personal. Snapshots capturing everyday life and subjects are a major form of vernacular photography (1).

Photos of a moment in time, person, place or thing, that aren’t journalistic, are snapshots. No judgment of quality, ability, or merit is implied. It is assumed by many that snapshots not edited for appearance (that would still make them vernacular, but many would consider them no longer snapshots). Snapshots often do not have relevance outside of the purpose of their capture, but are highly relevant within it.

Snapshots can also be (or become) artistic, can also be high quality photos (think candids by a wedding photographer). A more refined form of snapshots is Reportage (2).

Vernacular Photography (snapshots) are the subject of many museum exhibitions (3)

Universally the photographers I talked to say they frequently take snapshots, and none of them consider it a derogatory term.

I love #costuming

I have been a #model for #photographers and #painters

Still vain, but now #middleaged 😁

Rubinia Soulsinger, art by Rob Alexander. The image was originally titled Titania, Queen of the Fairies. She is depicted against a background of green leaves. She wears a light silver-blue silken strapless gown that flutters behind her, as she glides to the left of the picture. She has a suggestion of deep-blue butterfly wings folded behind her. She gazes at the viewer. This image appeared on a Magic: The Gathering card in the Legends expansion of 1994.
Cover art of the Cheapass Game, Stuff and Nonsense. Depicted in a cartoon style, a red-headed woman in steampunk style carries a satchel of curios down a Victorian city street. From behind a corner, she is observed disapprovingly by Professor Elemental, in his signature pith helmet.
A woman in an 18th century gown, tall stylized wig and a gold carnevale half-mask stands in the Piazza San Marco in Venice. Behind her can be seen the gondolas parked in the Bacino. The sky is grey and misty, and Santa Maria della Salute is visible only as a shadowy silhouette in the distance.
A portrait of a woman with a cloth draped around her head and shoulders. With her right hand she holds the fabric closed at her throat, and with her left hand she holds the fabric delicately by the side of her head. The picture is rendered in stippling - tiny dots made with an ink pen.

OK so #photographers of #mastodon how do you feel about unusual #landscapephotography formats? I seem to end up being a fan but I know others detest anything out of the normal ratios?

Tall view of Mt Cook and hooker stream

1) I saw a Business Insider article claiming "the new Twitter competitors such as Mastodon are struggling to attract new users" and I thought "you SO don't get it and also excellent."

2) Is there a way to make lists on #Mastodon that would move the people on the list out of my Home feed? Like, a list of #photographers (I might be following a few) (a lot), a list of #writers (ditto), and then "civillians" ;) so I can see more posts? (I assume the answer is no… @jorijn? sorry to always tag you)

@brunomiguel CC-BY (Attribution only). But for really special ones, I'll add NC (Non Commercial) too to prevent grifters from profiting off your work legally. I find the SA (Share Alike) too hard to fully comply even if there is good will.

That's when I publish them on flickr, since I don't have an active pixelfed (yet) and instagram is... well, limited.

I had my photos at @brunomiguel@pixelfed.social with a CC0 license by default. I changed it to CC-BY-SA and reapplied the new license on all the photos.

Right now, this license is the one that makes more sense to me. There's a chance I'll change it again to CC0, though, because I also like that license

#Photographers of the #Fediverse, what's your favorite permissive license for your photos?

I've been hearing about unsplash.com as a venue for photographers to post their work.

I want to make sure I understand the value proposition here clearly compared to, say, a CC-BY-2.0 license. The ideas is that I allow people to use my work for free in exchange for exposure, and the only catch is that I don't actually get the exposure because they don't have to credit me? What's not to love?

Is there a way to do a hashtag search for your own local instance on #mastodon, rather than searching the whole fediverse? I would like to find more local #photographers as my follow list is full of retro computing enthusiasts, a hobby I’m still into I guess but not as much as #photography

This is model Tori Heffernan at a photoshoot from Retina Creative Labs in Rhode Island some years ago. I still think it's cool.

We used to do a lot of these model shoots before hitting the road to document landscapes and culture. It was a good time!

Old saying amongst #photographers ... "The best #camera is the one you have with you"

Waiting for a friend in a café in Riga, Latvia. I reached into my jacket, retrieved my #OlympusPen-F and took a few snaps of what was outside the window.

Allright #blind peoples of Mastodon, I want to start a thread with recommendations from all of you. I want to know and highlight people here who do wonderful image descriptions. Whether they're #photographers, animal lovers--think #cats or #dogs, #Nature lovers, or provide #AltText for their photos in general, we should highlight them so that other people can see from their examples.

Tell me who and why.
