While I see these Jays every time I go bird watching in the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas, their blue crown feathers are usually "slicked back" nice and silky looking. But not this morning...as you can see those crown feathers are standing up nice and tall. It gave me a bit of a laugh as it looked as if they all had mohawks!

The sun sets over the Atlantic Ocean along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. The scene was captured next to the Oceanana Fishing Pier in the seaside town of Atlantic Beach. The evening sky is filled with pastel colors as the night's shadows slow envelop the scene. The sea is calm on this night but can be quite angry as the hundreds of shipwrecks laying off the coast attest. As luck would have it I would finally see some Roseate Spoonbills at a decent distance but they all had there heads tucked in for a nap. Perhaps because they rest on only one leg, this one wobbled a bit so I at least got a quick sight of its namesake, the spoonbill, before it tucked back into position.

Finally, finally, finally! This vireo came out of the thick twigs and struck a pose! I had followed it from one end of the boardwalk to the other but every snap of the shutter had twigs across its body until it made this quick stop on an outer limb before moving up a little higher.

This reddish brown #ClearwingHummingbirdMoth, #Hemaris, entertained me for quite some time as it flitted from one purple/pink bloom to another of the Butterfly Bush, Buddleia. It comes by its name honestly as it hovers, hums and nectars just like the Hummingbird and it loves the same flowers.

#ThrowbackThursday to one of my favorite mornings on the desert. I found the horses high on the side of Davis Mountain and hiked up to them. Many were still resting peacefully, like this group. Some even laying down. Just me and the horses!

This is kind of a #ThrowbackThursday - it's still so fresh in my mind, the recent vacation on Gran Canaria, but it's already in the past, a very pleasant memory. Even though there were some clouds in the sky that day, the general warmth let's you enjoy the scenery in a tshirt and shorts even in the winter months.

A Great Egret (Ardea alba) with it’s beautiful snow white wings spread wide, has just touched down in the deep blue waters of a local bayou spillway. Birds often gather along the edge of this spillway and catch fish as they pass by.

It was #CedarWaxwing heaven with the #cherries in abundance on the Sargent Cherry trees in #Guelph #Ontario Canada. The #Waxwings were eating them like they were candy and gulping them down like someone was going to take it from them!

I must admit it was such a beautiful, peaceful day that I would have enjoyed a float in which I could drift around myself! The water might have been too cool for me though, as I captured this beauty on a sunny, February day in a bay off of the Gulf of Mexico.

One of the largest North American birds is the American White Pelican whose large heads and huge, heavy bills give them a prehistoric look. This large white bird with a bright yellow bill is drifting peacefully on the bay water.

With loads of white fruit, the Red Osier Dogwood attracts the berry loving birds, especially the American Robin.

I had just been admiring another Tri-colored Heron from the boardwalk over the marsh area, then I turned to walk to the bay when I spotted this one in the Mangroves. I thought this was a beautiful, dream-like pose by this Heron as it gently preened its gorgeous plumage. Captured along the 4800 ft boardwalk at South Padre Island, Texas last day of February.
