@taxyovio I am a #physicist and I enjoyed it. I had read the book it was based on, American Prometheus, and I feel it did a pretty good job capturing the essence of it. You obviously get a lot more information and backstory from the book. The movie is told in a non-linear manner, which I think was done very well. The cinematography was good. If you are familiar with a lot of the Manhattan Project names, a lot of them are there, but not much is done to fill in their biographies than is needed for the story. From that standpoint it added another layer of enjoyment for me knowing who these secondary characters were and their importance in the grander scheme. You don't have to know anything about the science or the scientists to enjoy the movie, but if you do know a bit, it was nice to see that they got that stuff correct without beating you over the head about it. You get a lot more insight into Oppenheimer's personality and personal demons from the book that helps explain certain events, but that is a limitation imposed by the movie format.

#VirginiaNorwood passed away earlier this year at the age of 96, and #NASA’s farewell to this influential pioneer is a worth a read. Virginia was a brilliant #physicist and #engineer, and among her other accomplishments, we have her to thank for the ongoing success of the #Landsat program, which continues to this day. My field of research is #QuantumOptics and I specialise in the theory of #QuantumCorrelations in non-Gaussian quantum states. My favourite tools are #WignerFunctions and phase space representations in general. I recently also ventured in superresolution #Imaging and #QuantumMetrology.

Hi #fediverse, I'm a particle #physicist looking for #darkmatter and investigating #neutrinos. This involves simulating millions of radioactive decays on top500.org clusters. Our detectors often use liquefied noble gases and #highvoltage, which can lead to (undesired, but) amazing phenomena such as the attached arc in liquid argon.
