The self hosted services genuinely relied on are #pi-hole, #paperless-ngx and #Jellyfin #plex both clients access the same media folders.
The other key application is #homeassistant which also links to several Pi based sensors, everything can also be visualised through #grafana

I’ve tended to move away from self hosted productivity apps in favour of native desktop or mobile apps pulling their data from the NAS. A more little known app I’ve started hosting recently is #omnivore. Its an #opensource readlater app and has a good #IOS app.

All data and services are also accessible externally either via #tailscale or cloudflare tunnel clients running on each Pi

A laughable amount of energy is also spent managing, monitoring and securing this collection of Pi’s with self-hosted tools for the WAN, LAN, WI-FI, FW & servers.

Deleting #ephipi cruft. The first #Perl script I'm sticking with (which I've renamed ePhiPi_0xMagBin.pl) is the poor man's stress test. All it does it examine the constants #EulerNumber, #Phi, and #pi for matching single binary digits or strings of digits by orders of 0x magnitude. It reaches the 7th fairly quickly.

I'm thinking I need to do a speed test for my Tiny88, Pi Pico and Arduino Nano Every. My initial thought is to do something like..

Zero timer and counter
start timer
Main point
Add to counter
If timer greater than 10 seconds print counter and quit
Else go back to main point

I'm thinking I should stick to C++ on the Nano and 88 but python on the pi, simply because it will reflect how people actually use the SBCs. Not many want to jump through the hoops needed to do c++ on the Pico.

I seem to actually be getting my mojo back for dicking about with tech. Decided to finally get round to building a Pi-Hole https://pi-hole.net/ to help reduce ads and shit on my home network. Was about to order a Raspberry Pi to work on then read I could put it on a VM in the cloud. Brilliant. Bit of tinkering later and I have it working wonderfully. And beauty is it's so small that it's going to cost me maybe $1/month in cloud hosting. Not sure they'll even bother billing.

Big #Safari tip if you inadvertently turned on "Limit IP address tracking" in your #macOS network settings (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and you also have a #Pi-Hole as your default network DNS server.

The anti-tracking feature tries to route traffic for certain domains through Apple's VPN but Pi-Hole often responds with 0.0.0.0 for blocked domains and that confuses the anti-tracking very much, leading to a permanently loading request with no timeouts or errors. NEAT!

Hmm. Garden solar pico keeps crashing after a few hours. I think it's getting stuck trying to publish readings to mqtt. Unsure if it's just some unreliability in micropython / lightsleep, slightly patchy WiFi (that it needs to deal with gracefully) or something else.
