Well this is cool. I found a Seattle Weather bot. Now i can get a basic weather forecast here.

@nwsseattle_bot

I usually just check a simple weather app in linux and sometimes view the Space Needle Panocam to visualize it if i'm super curious.

For those who don't know, our tall friend the Seattle Space Needle has a webcam in it. You can see my city and also travel back in time through its archives. :)

Friends today I crossed CLIMB A STRATOVOLCANO (Mt St Helens) off my bucket list. When I first verbalized this dream I had never walked more than a couple miles in a day and I'm honestly still very scared of steep snowy hillsides. #Kelp has long been an important part of the #Samish diet and culture. The Samish Indian Nation's Department of Natural Resources dive team, formed in 2021, was created to gain a better understanding of the health of kelp forests, after elders noticed they weren't finding kelp fronds, which are traditionally used to wrap salmon.

Annals was written in four parts across decades, ending in the 90s, and it's left me quite curious as to how the field has evolved since then. If anyone in academic #geology sees this thread and is familiar with the McPhee book, I would love a pointer to further reading that covers more recent findings and theory. And I'd especially love a book on the geological history and tectonics of the #PNW - after the Assembling California section of Annals I'm ready for more of that!

Bearded iris, the emperor of flowers, both with and against the morning light. This clump is at least 20 years old (it came with the house) and I’ve moved and divided it several times. I think they’re finally happy. I wish the bloom time was longer—but then I guess the “blink and you miss them” is part of their mystique. Really exquisite.

A clump if bearded irises against the morning light in a garden bed. The foliage is king and pointed, and the light makes the leaf edges glow. A couple dozen enormous purple and yellow flowers look like imperial crowns on thick stems rising above the foliage. The beards or tongues hang down from them, intense purple. A stone wall, a fence, and a fir tree are visible behind.
Closeup of an iris flower. The delicate lavender of the upper petals is backlit by the morning sun and the orange-yellow of the petal beads is intense. The deep purple beards hang down beneath. Sun-dappled foliage is out of focus beyond.
Another view of the same clump of irises from the other side, with the morning sun really making the colors pop. Beyond the flower bed is a chicken run with an elaborate gate, and some fir trees.
