I found a ffmpeg-script to synchronize them into one file, but I still want them separate to deal with crosstalk etc. I could do it in Premiere, but there must be something better, no? An app? One of the things that has long flummoxed me about #podcasting #tech is the drive to make things easier during the creation process.
I get it at some levels. There are a lot of aspects of podcasting that would be better served by bits (software) than our brains. Case in point: 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz, -16 LUFS, Joint Stereo. It's dumb that I have that memorized when I should just leave it to the bits to fuss with at the end of the production process.
But when I see bits—particularly generative bits—aimed at things better suited to brains (e.g. creativity, voice, tone) I tighten the straps on my Helmet Of Healthy Skepticism.
Here's the latest from a piece in today's @Podnews@social.podnews.net :
"After recording and editing, podcasters can spend anywhere from one to ten hours in post-production. "
Or, you know, a hundred or more hours of post-production. Not kidding. Ask an #AudioDrama producer making a show with a full cast and immersive soundscape.

"[THESE NEW] solutions can reduce this to mere minutes upon uploading of an audio file."

That smells like hyperbolic hype to me.
Again, I'm sure there are some post-production steps that can integrations like this can take away from our creative brains. For podcasters who struggle with some of those rote mechanics, they'll benefit.
But beyond that... I remain skeptical. And very willing to be wrong!

@annaecook I have a question about podcast accessibility. A popular medical science podcast I enjoy only provides transcripts for a price. You have to have a "premium" account. They're also on YouTube so they get around the requirement to have a text alternative for prerecorded audio by telling the user to turn on the auto-caption feature. Is this just sleazy or possibly also illegal? Seems blatantly discriminatory to me. #a11y #podcasting

I used to be on another instance, but I migrated back over here when it just didn't feel lively enough to me. I lean liberal. I read books. I'm kinda religious, but don't identify as anything in particular.
At 5.30 this morning, a wren was singing outside my window, so I fetched my sound recorder because I need background audio for some future relaxation podcasts.
I set it recording on the window ledge and got back into bed to listen to the birdsong.
I now have a 20-minute recording of beautiful bird-song...
..the last 10 minutes of which features me snoring, as it was so relaxing, I fell asleep.

My wife and I are big cartoon watchers, which is something we bonded over when we first met. Several years before we met, I had started a cartoon blog just for kicks and to talk about my favorite shows (I still write on it sometimes: https://animatedtvblog.wordpress.com).
When wifey and I first met, we especially bonded over things like The Simpsons, Futurama, Bob's Burgers, and American Dad. We even did a podcast together last year where we recorded and released a new episode every day in October that covered *every* Treehouse of Horror episode so far, with a segment-by-segment breakdown (https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/podcast-of-horror).
My favorite Simpsons episodes change a lot, and I like the later seasons too (including the current one- I've seen every episode of the show to date multiple times 🤣). One of my top favorite episodes is season 12's "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes". It's such a bizarre and hilarious episode with so many facets- Homer buying his first computer, starting a website (see the still of 'Homer's Web Page' below), and then being whisked away to a weird island because they think he knows too much.
It also has what might be my favorite chalkboard gag of all time, as Bart is writing 'I will only provide a urine sample when asked'. 🤣🤣
I love weird animation so much.

I already use Descript to create my videos, but I just finished watching one of their training sessions, and after learning all the nuanced little tricks, I'm going to try it for my audio too.
If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it. It's such a time-saver.
Is anyone actually surprised audio with just a cover slide isn't effective on YouTube?
We tried this from 2016 through 2019, got no traction, and have been experimenting with other forms of video ever since.
Maybe people thought it would be different because podcasts are now in YouTube Music, but I'm not surprised it's not taking off.
