You can see to the bottom of the pond. There are rocks of all different shapes and sizes under the water. On the left there are bunches of lilly pads with one flower bloomed. This Sunday lived up to its name, so sunny it was. I took a nice walk through the forest to a pond that I really love. For me this place is the living romance, so turquoise the water, so vivid the colors of nature. I was lucky, the light was just perfect today - Happy Pentecost to those who celebrate.

One of the great pleasures of cultivating a home #garden is the daily ritual of #foraging fresh greens for lunch.

I wandered down to pick some greens and give the tadpoles their daily feed (cucumber slices). Yes, although it’s almost winter here, native frog tadpoles are still fattening up, ready to metamorphose next month. But also attracted to our pond this time of year are these gorgeous Eastern Billabongflies.

And today, like most days this past month, I spent timeless moments of pure joy watching our fleet of blue damselflies flitting about tasting flowers, veg and each other, then resting satisfied in the warmth of the low sun.

Eastern billabongflies (Austroagrion watsoni) are small damselflies about 25mm (1 inch) long, also known as the Eastern Dart, a damselfly in the family Coenagrionidae. They are found near slow running water or still water, such as lakes, ponds and ditches throughout northern and eastern Australia. Male and female eastern billabongflies mate in a wheel position, and this Australian native is fortunately not an endangered species.

A water lily is blooming in my little pond!

Doesn't happen very often. Only a few times a year. So it feels very special.

So my apologies. I'm still learning & this may be a terrible picture? But I quite liked it for some reason.

We are standing in a marshy area along the shore of a beaver pond. It is a very calm day, the surface is barely rippled. Near the far shore of the pond you can see a beaver lodge made of sticks and mud. There are several pines and hemlocks in the forest surrounding the pond, but the majority of trees are hardwoods that remain leafless at this early stage of spring. Most of the water grasses near the shores of the pond are golden brown and dormant, but in the foreground some clumps of sedge are throwing out the first bright green shoots of spring. The sky is a pale blue with many dark clouds streaming across. The setting sun has tinted the horizon and the bottoms of many of the clouds in bright orange and gold.

Hello! I have just discovered the delightful #MarshMadness hashtag. Here's a #beaver #pond and #marsh at Barnes Camp on the road up to Smugglers Notch, #Vermont. Mt. Mansfield, the state's highest peak is to the left. August 2022. #GreenMtns #MountainMonday

Still dark water with dead trees coming out of it. Beyond, low green vegetation transitions into mixed hardwood-coniferous forests. A notch between two mountains in the distance, with great fluffy clouds covering the upper slopes of the mountains and sky.

Spirits of Turtle Island.

My wife and I went to Georgia over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Across from our hotel was a partially hidden pond in a ravine. In the pond were a few species of water birds, so I went to investigate one evening just before dusk.

There was a small island in the pond occupied by these turtles. I took a couple of photos and briefly turned my attention elsewhere, when I turned back to the island, the turtles were gone. I probably spooked them. But there is a mist in the photo that I don't recall being there when I snapped the picture. 👻👻😅

I think the turtles are pond-sliders but I'm not certain at all. If anybody can definitively identify the turtles, please let us know.
