I recently posted on the Romaneira equivalent of this and it is an interesting comparison. If anything, this Noval (after about 14 years in cask, bottled with a long cork) has more precision and elegance, while the Romaneira shows more depth. The Noval has smoothed out beautifully.
The Romaneira at $60 is $30 less, though, which will not be irrelevant for many. I like them about equally well, although for different reasons. This is a beauty for a young-ish Tawny. #Wine #port #winesofportugal
This is probably showing as well as it ever will again--I don't see it improving much more if at all--but it is certainly very enjoyable at the moment. I didn't give it a full decant, but a few hours of double decanting. Then, it evolved and blossomed in the glass over half an hour and more, and drank beautifully. The tannins are no longer an issue. @dnc This is not a Vintage Port, which are in the ruby-family of Ports. It's a Colheita--a single-vintage Tawny Port. This was bottled in 2020 after 40 years in cask. They no doubt have released this 1980 at other times, common with Colheitas, so some people may have tasted a version with only 20 years in barrel, or 30, or 15, whatever. That info on bottling dates will always be on the label somewhere. That's important--it dramatically changes how the wine shows. #wine #port

For those who missed it, Paul Fenwick @pjf has solved the "USB paradox", where you have to try to insert a USB-A plug three times, flipping it over twice, before you succeed in inserting it into the port.
His genius, and obviously correct, explanation is that USB-A plugs have spin 1/2. Consult your local particle physicist for details if interested.
At Portsmouth port, an almost £20m grant has been secured to operate a shore power system, allowing ships to effectively plug into the mains, using renewable energy to run their onboard systems. This will improve air quality at the port and save 5,500 tonnes of carbon a year.
