11 postcards. First a photograph of native tickseed flowers against a beautiful blue sky. Next is a motivational card with a lot of words on it. The next is a map of Eau Claire Wisconsin. The second row has a postcard which reads I’ve listened to NPR before it was cool. Next to that is a postcard which reads the Midwest, friendly folks and salads, made with marshmallows and pictures a dish with marshmallow cream, dessert. To the right of that is a show me tours bus with a fellow in a yellow trenchcoat flashing the people on the bus. To the right of that is a whale on a postcard from Iceland the final row has a postcard from the Nelson, Atkins Museum, featuring the giant shuttlecock.next to that is a postcard from Alaska with a musk ox in the fire weed. Next to that is a postcard which reads the one Denali and the Denali mountain and finally a multi view postcard from Texas showing a number of Texas themes.

The backs of all of the postcards arranged in such a way that only the stamps are shown. There are patches where I had to blur or obscure text, or addresses. the stamps here date back as far as 80 years and contain modern ones such as the message monsters and the Missouri stamp as well as a happy birthday stamp. There are two Red Cross themed stamps from the 1940s and a number of floral stamps from across multiple decades, the oldest stamp I believe is a four cent project mercury stamp from the 1950s.

I’ve been working on an iOS #swift #postcard app this year, and the preview screen shows all of the fun details on the postcard back itself. The back of the postcard says:

“This is an emoji test. The main font on the postcard is Scribo Pro Rough by underware.nl, and the emojis are rendered with Noto Emoji by Google.

All of the text has a custom dirt map laid over it. The layout is in node-canvas, rendered via AWS Lambda.”

I started an Instagram a while back to share my #postcard collection, but after almost two years, I felt like I was dumping content into IG and just a few people would even see it (the numbers weren't necessarily something I cared about, I just care that people actually get to enjoy what I'm sharing). The process of posting to IG was bad, too. I put the project on hiatus, but I'd love to revive it on a platform where where I have more control over presentation and the tools I use to manage it.
