I’m actually kind of surprised that #TheElderScrolls doesn’t have more media supporting it. An animated show on #Prime, a series of books set in various eras, The Lusty Argonian Maid in hardcover. Seems like it would be easy to contract out and keep people interested until #ElderScrolls6 comes out for people who aren’t into #ESO / #ElderScrollsOnline. Seems like there is a lot of lore trapped inside the games that could be accessible in other forms.

I just finished watching Vikings. When I was late to the party several years ago, I guess I should have known this show would turn into a sprawling, epic saga that would outgrow the small, Norwegian fishing village where it all started and take us to the Silk Road, England and beyond. Though frequently brutal, because Vikings, the show was unexpectedly beautiful and concluded in that way. I’m sad that it is over. not sure why but my #amazon prime credit card was suddenly closed in the last week 👀 no big because I made a conscious decision to stop using #prime a few years ago anyway because it's hot garbage anymore, and also like ethical consumption n all that
But it got me thinking how hard it still is to avoid #AWS, then I realized I'm pretty sure my instance isn't hosted there and it made me happy. I think that's another boon to the #fediverse - we have more choice w/ infra and I kind of love that
It is done. I just cancelled #AmazonPrime, 33 days early (getting that sweet $10 refund).
I reviewed my order history and, since #Prime started, I've placed an average of 11.35 orders per year (9.5 since 2001).
10 years with 6 or fewer orders; 2 with 38; 1 with 32; 1 with 25; 2 with 13; 1 with 10.
So, not at all a sacrifice beyond convenience, but this small act is more than most people are willing to do.
Amazon is a monopoly, an entity attempting to swallow all of consumer commerce whole.
I finished watching #ThePeripheral on #Prime tonight.
It's a good show, a little too slow but well done overall.
The concept took a bit for me to grasp, and I'm still not clear on the whole stub thing, especially in light of how it ended.
I mean, why not create a stub before their lives went to shit, treat mom earlier, avoid Connor getting hurt, and keep them all alive and maybe stop the Jackpot, too?
Time travel shows and movies are too messy and confusing for me.
Lately, nothing will get me to stop watching a show or movie than characters doing things that are unbelievable. Not in a reckless way like going alone into a dark basement, but everyday stuff.
E.g. Tin Star on #Prime: Mom wakes up from coma, dad doesn't take daughter to hospital or even notify her or her guard.
wtaf? Who thinks that's in *any* believable, especially with what the daughter does later, still unaware.

I did a queue review tonight of Amazon Prime shows, and the only one that's still compelling is The Peripheral.
I'm trying to like The English, and the second episode was better than the first, but the series open struck me as typical "white veneration of a noble savage", and I don't think it's going to move beyond that racist trope, sadly.
And there's no way a woman and two children would *start* a journey at sundown versus sunrise.

One of the things I love about working in #IT is the different ways you make use of old, yet serviceable systems.
Classic CPUs are still insanely powerful devices, capable of amazing things. One project I've become involved with recently is the Great Internet #Mersenne #Prime Search (GIMPS) which uses spare CPU cycles donated by anyone in the world to find the next Mersenne prime (the last one was found in 2018!).
I have around five systems which are happily chugging away, crunching numbers and reporting back to the main project. I like the idea that even when I'm not feeling productive, at least something within my control is contributing back to science and society.
