I think Maturana may have “jumped the gun” here by succumbing to the cybernetic #control vs. #controlled type of thinking and using a gun (a mere passive #product or #structure) as a metaphor for an active, living #system.
In my mind, the notion of external control so pervasive in #cybernetics does not fit well with the notions of #autopoiesis and #constructivism.
Unlike a (living) system, the gun has no other #choice but to react to the trigger, except, as Maturana notes, in case of malfunction (which is not equivalent to choice).
All the #LLM and #chatgpt conversations are fascinating to me. What seems to be glossed over is the size of the infrastructure required to train and run the models. As the wow factor wanes, I wonder how accessible these #product features will remain. Will they be relegated to high-cost subscriptions until costs can be brought down?

I think it’s one of those rare job functions which cannot be essentialized, cannot be reduced to any particular methodology or job description, and which varies so much from job to job, company to company, that it is best approached on a case by case basis
Which is not to say there are not paradigmatic exemplars of what #Product is. But paradigms always have exceptions. It is quintessentially a generalist multifunctional discipline

I share an interesting approach we used at New Relic to solve executive alignment on #product direction, and cross-team execution: a Product Council. We went from not being able to have confidence in any cross-team project to having a system that worked quite effectively at large programs.

It’s easy for me to get frustrated about not moving fast enough in a #software project; I was feeling this recently but, in hindsight, we’ve managed (in a 1k person company) to get a #product to real customers in less than six months, and it’ll probably go GA in less than a year from the kick off of defining the product. That’s well before we even started implementing!
A great way to tell an app did not plan for any measure of success is their "list all the things" UI. If it's something that looks gorgeous with <10 things and is an unusable mess with dozens of things then you know.
Filterable lists and search are boring but they work a hell of a lot better than your wooshy-card-based-nonsense.
